Hey! I want in on the duck too!! :O The thread was at the bottom till I dug it out :P

*just kidding* Just hope things work out for everyone . Eddy can pack on those extra kilos all by himself. Hahahahaha!!

Side question: I can feel the rocks & sides of my slider tank getting slimy . What do you guys do about that? I sure hate to empty the whole tank to give it a wash...

    Eddy, Nicholas, nyxx88,

That you all for your support and offer to help me with babysitting. My colleague was very much interested in taking of the terrapin and he has experience in this as he has a big one at his home in India. His father is with him here and he was quite excited to take care.
I would still keep the Big beer and roasted duck offer on and when I come back we can get together for this.

Once again, Guys, appreciate your help and i am indebted.

    cheers

    nyxx88,

I too have this problem where the wood gets slimy. I wash it with vinegar once a week to remove all the slime.

    cheers

Vinegar? Won't that leave some... acidic residue? I think I will just make the effort to empty out the tank totally every few weeks, give it a good scrub. Also, same of the rocks too.

    Re: Terrapin Babysitting

    Hey guys!

there is no need to wash or either scrub your whatever wood or rock, just leave this alone except for water change. Terrapin need those slimy thing ( algae) on rock or wood acting as basking site to reduce fungal infection on its skin and shell. But do ensure the terrapin shell free of algae is a sign of shell rot, if found just brush it out with toothbrush will do.

Actually I'm keeping my youngest son's 2 turtles(3 years) in 1 ft tall 2x3 ft blue basin(sold in LFS) providing generous space in housing terrapins is because terrapins tend to be grow large and very messy eaters. I'm using Jebo canister for biological filtration . I never wash the container or rocks, just do a monthly water change( 3/4) and wash up the Jebo filter canister in every 2 monthly .

I recommend you guys to get a similar rectangular basin with at least 1 ft high from any LFS to house your terrapins so that you can able to enjoy successive generations of terrapins to last a life time and more!

    hope this will help you.
    cheers
