Using internal overflow filter for planted tanks?

Hi,

just wondering if anyone has done that and care to share your experiences?

I thought the main issue is the loss of CO2 due to the trickling of water into the filter.

However, I have a friend who has a 4ft heavily planted tank with a IOF filtration system which works very well. I think AquaTechnic also uses a similar system apparently with no ill effects. Doesn't seem like loss of CO2 is a problem for them.

I have not tried the overflow system for planted tanks. But I used a Eheim Liberty filter for one of them. I filled the water high enough so that the outlet of the filter is below water surface, to reduce surface agitation. So far OK. Maybe you can do something similar for your overflow and let us know how it goes?

I use wet/dry system. The main thing is that you keep the gph at 3-5 times, which is recommended for tanks. Any faster and the Co2 gases off. I might use a bit more Co2, but its worth being able to use a wet/dry filter. More oxygen=less algae, and all the equipment is in the sump.

Pardon me, but what is gph? gallons per hour?
Do you have a pic of your W/D system?
