I have no problems growing riccia and glosso in my tank but I just can't get hairgrass to grow. []

Everytime I plant hairgrass, it will either show no signs of growth(after 4 weeks) or either get infested by algae.

I have just rescapped my tank planted hairgrass again. This time round, I took great care not to break off the roots. It been about a week already.

When my cories bump against the hairgrass, there will be big bubbles coming out from the gravel, is this normal? Also, some strands of hairgrass have turned brown.

How long does hairgrass take to start growning/spreading?

do a search for hairgrass, we have visited this many times already. as for the bubble, could be rotting in the substrate, push a pincer into the gravel and sniff it see whether it smells like a stagnant swamp or your breadth in the morning

if you didn't break any roots, could well mean you didn't plant it deep enough.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

I would love to but the search function is not working. []

I mean, I did not break the roots when I was seperating the hairgrass, plungged it deep into the gravel already.

Did the smell test, no stinky smell.

I had trouble with HG until I bought a whole lot of it, and did an experiment.

The bigger that I left the "clumps" after sererating the pot, the better it did. Unfortunately, that also means it's going to grow/spread slower that way. Also, the stuff labelled E. parvulus seemed to be hardier than that labelled E. acicularis-- At least that was the case for me.

Further-- I didn't use alot of light to get mine to grow at all. I grew it under 2x15w NO's on a 10g (38 liter) tank.

    Good luck.
