For newbies, cherry reds are the best. You can try Yamato shrimps too... they won't breed in freshwater.

Ramhorns. Typically introduced when you add plants. If the numbers are small just pick them out with a pair of tweezers. If you have an infestation then you need to ask yourself if you have been overfeeding
Copper might affect them but not sure if small doses will kill them... don't think the copper coin would work lol. If you intend to keep shrimps do note that copper is lethal to shrimps. I've seen other bros using Assassin snails to get rid of ramhorns but yet to try it myself.

    Re: New in aquascaping....

    hey altum,

just wanna check with you, what are the aletrnative brands of fluid filter media to use other than filterstart/ easy life. Wonder if you know this two brands? I'm dropping by seaview this weekend and would like to grab fluid filter medias other than having my existing biohome home plus filter medias and sponges. As i will setting my new tank this weekend, hope to find alternative source in seaview cheers.
are nanas, HC/Mosses hardy enough? Lightings is 55w pl light enough? i saw some bros using 36w PL but some used 55w. Appreciate
For a start., after adding in plants, need to immediate on the lights for 4hrs?

    Re: New in aquascaping....

Never tried red clay sand before but I think clay based substrates tend to lower ph? Not too sure about that. Neons are fine with lower ph, guppies tend to do better in neutral to more alkaline water like most livebearers do. Typically they would have no problems adapting to your aquarium as long as you avoid the extremes. I've kept neons and guppies in moderately hard water with ph at around 7 but my guppies didn't breed in my aquarium back then.

KITTY!! stop hijacking wongce's thread :P

    Re: New in aquascaping....

haha, its ok nahz, i'm not that petty anyway, i thinking to grow riccia, but i know for 2ft tank, this plant need high lighting comsumption. care to share your tank ? i gg to start setting up this weekend, anyway thinking to buy ADA with mixture of some advanced sand, and also ADA sarawak sand for cosmetic purpose of the riverbed, haha... i need to get tennulus and rotala for background. hope i can succeed haha, previously grwon some plants in my 3ft tank, tiger lotus is real challeng, but amazon sword plant is really long lasting... and my nanas are the longest survvor champs! haha...low light also can survive valleniras(not sure i spell correctly) the long thin grass like, at first it was nice, soon after turns yellow and leafs get thinning and thinning and melt...and CAMBOBA really rocks...but grow too fast with my CO2 injection..everyweek have to trim.. trim until my fish gets mad i guess...haha
now i downgrading my tank as need space, so decided to go for 2ft tank set up. hope i can get it done 'swee swee' this week hohoho...
i never had mosses, so wonder if its easy?

erm, don't worry... all are welcomed..btw, nothing wrong with that name... maybe because i love animals...erm aquascaping is not a guy exclusive hobby anyway... fyi, i do gardening too...i have 2 pots of flowers and some ..pandan leaves..LOL

From your post...you are not a newbie then.... my self intro: i have fish rearing exp (around 8 years) but i never try life plants though..no money while i'm a student.. and aquascaping not that popular during that period.. Nice to meet you kitty...

i'm ordered a 2 feet tank..which is arriving this week...hope to get it as early as possible... Kitty, you seems to have a matured tank... share some photo pls my nano is quite basic at the moment.. too messy to share...LOL

i'm restarting my hobby ..just started a NANO... hehe as i mentioned earlier in my post... I'm going low tech... normal light...no CO2..haha.. cuz i'm LAZZZYYY
