Hi i'm new in aqua landscaping, thinking of getting a 2/3 feet tank, I need recommendation/advise on :-

    1) Soil type - less clouding n maintenance?
    2) Plants to recommend
    3) Things to take note
    4) Good LFS to recommend in Woodlands/ along MRT

I'm thinking of making a low tech tank, with minimum trouble in maintenance, All sifus pls help...

btw, i'm not new in rearing fishes, but i didn't try planting anything in the tank before...LOL my past plants are PLASTIC PLANTS... Hope to learn more in this community....

do you have any scape you want to achieve? you can search from internet etc.

    1) My favorite soil is ADA amazonia but if you only plan to plan fern, anubias or moss then you do not need soil.
    2) depend on the scape you choose
    3) CO2 will solve lots of thing but not everything. Please do ask around before you start to buy thing.
    4) My favorites LFS are C328, NA.

    Re: New in aquascaping....

For low tech, lapis would be enough. Plants for low tech are usually ferns, anubias(just as robert has pointed out) and crypts.

Also for low tech, i do not encourage CO2 and good LFS along woodlands/MRT includes(also include Robert's list) Y618, CCK306 aka Hong Yang and JZX(AMK).

Also for low tech, you may want to consider getting the right light size(wattage) for your requirements.

Hi, I'm thinking of making a Moss Tree.... i went to y618 & Y934 and saw it is selling Christmas moss/ Java Moss/pelia ..which is it suitable for making a moss tree?

so, if i stick to moss or low tech plants, i don't need any substrates??

i heard some ppl mixing ADA n Lapis for better effect? will the substrates cloud water?any recommendation?

Btw, i saw a lot of videos showing lush carpet plants...what are they? how to make something similar LOW tech? I'm ok with fertilizers, the prob is the CO2 which is expensive....

if you really want to mix ADA with other substrate, I would advocate for ADA with the respective ADA power sand special powder. But for a low tech tank, I tend to think that just purely lapis sand is sufficient.

    Just my two cents worth.

Lapis sand aka American river sand is commonly available and for 2 feet tank, i believe 2 packs of 10 kilo is more than enough.

    1. If you want to emulate the tree leaf, you can try spiky, Singapore, X'mass, and Taiwan moss. If you want to emulate fern growing on the surface of tree skin, you can try java moss but need to trim regularly to create that effect

    2. you tie the moss or fissiden on stainless steel mess and let it grow. It is not hard to do.

Actually I bought my Co2 Canister @ YCK farm, 55 bucks which can last for 3 months or so (height of canister including the main valve head slightly higher than my 2ft tank (roughly 1ft height)).
Thats 18bucks per month (for first 3 month) which is only 60cents per day.

why i say for first 3 month is because subsequently top up (1 to 1 exchange) of co2 cost only 16 bucks again for 3 month, that is 5.3 bucks per month and its merely near 20cents per day.

Its even more expensive if you were to DIY co2 with yeast fermentation.

Above said is for my 2ft planted tank. ^-^"
serious, its not expensive to invest in a co2 canister.

    Re: New in aquascaping....

Thanks you all for the help, I'll try out without co2 first..later if got time n extra money,I'll go for high tech...I saw those Japanese style aquarium...really very nice...

Buying a 2/3 feet tank when get this month's salary..hehe..btw which filter is better? Power head or external canister?? Can help to propose a budget for a low tech 2 or 3 feet tank...

Last time you can get it from Colorful aquarium, but last visit the shop seem to focus on CRS. Why don't you try post at buy and sell, someone may have some to spare. Riccia is fast growing you dont really need much.

If I remember correctly Seaview have it also.

Hi shadow, thanks again for your kind info, about the tree top moss, which of the moss u mention is easy and fast to grow? A lot ppl don't recommend java as it will become a MESS if I dun trim it frequently??

I have a java moss on driftwood,it's growing pretty good and upwards instead of carpeting,is it normal??
