My tank is on top of a DIY-ed cabinet bought from a fellow member. I guess a shoe cabinet won't be able to withstand the weight of a 3ft tank.

Hmmm the point of having it outdoors is to use the free lighting from the sunlight. Haha. In my opinion Indoors would require more research on light intensity and stuff which I have no knowledge in. I'm just a newbie with itchy hands trying to experiment different kind of tank set up.

I've not experienced mosquito larvae in my outdoors tank because I have gourami, molli and rasboras. Mosquito larvae would be a great meal for them haha!

haha i get what you mean. Although it sounds good to have it outside but I cant, simply because things get stolen irregardless of anything i put outside my house (even spare air tubings for god sakes) and there's small kids playing outside the corridor everyday so its not feasible haha. The main thing about the set up is that i planning to forgo mainly the filtration (or atleast a super small internal pump only perhaps?)

Oh! Hmm it's possible just that your main focus will be your lighting. And you cannot start with too many livestock

Kids are dangerous, especially when their the visitors.

Everyday, the infant few units away will make noise if no one brings him over... And it's a lot of noise... But the good thing is he doesn't slap hand on tank walls...

Beneficial bacteria is still present, but limited to water expose areas like substrate.

Personally, I would plant it heavily and also use something to partially shade it from the sun

There's not much to really take note. Just need enough plants and ferns is a good start. And most importantly is to get a shade net from Daiso . At times where the sunlight is too harsh you can use it. It won't kill the plants even if you shade the whole tank for few days. That's what I did .

I started with pearl gourami then I added some feeder mosquito fish and feeder mollies. Add for snails I recommend assassin snails. Assassin snails will get rid of unwanted snails in your tank that comes with your plants. And any fish that dies will be a meal for the snails as well. Add in pleco only after the tank matures.

    Re: My Outdoor setup

If you have no filter in the outdoor tank... consider bare-bottom, much easier to use a net and scoop out all the poop and waste every few weeks (helps prevent ammonia, nitrate and algae going out of control), you'll be surprised how much waste material accumulates at the bottom of a non-filtered tank even with just a few small fishes.
