    Hello all,

I have started a low tech planted tank with drawf hairgass, pennywort and jungle vals. I kept the tank cool at 26 to 28C with a fan. HOF by GEX. Soil is GEX also. Light is a 1 x 24W PL.

I dose wthe Flourish Excel weekly and add distill water daily due to evaporation by fan cooling. I have about 16pcs of Fire Red and some shrimplets with 3 x Neo Tretas.

Can I know what brand of fertilizer to use which will be shrimp friendly?? I read that shrimps are sensitive to copper based type fert.

    Appreciate your advise, thank you.

I believe Borneowild(BW) fertiliser are shrimps safe as stated on the instructions, you might want to check their ranges of products. Also GC,328 and Petmart carry BW products. Hope this helps.

    Tank size is 40cm x 26cm x 26cm. Smaller than a 2 ft tank.

Thank you for your advise. I only dose excel on a weekly basis with less than 1cc. Hairgrass is growing new stems and so are the Jungle Vals. I am contemplating adding ferts if growth rate is ok for a low tech tank. The shrimps are sensitive, that is why I started with Fire Red who are more resistance.

Icic..I guess I am braver than you then! Haha..I dosed excel daily according to the recommended dosage and my CRS are fine. Btw, excel is supposed to dose daily because of the liquid carbon will disappear within 24 hours if I am not wrong.

wahhh, how much do you dose daily? My tank is small thus any changes to the parameter will be felt by the shrimps if i over dose. That is what i feel. And BTW, do you add any ferts to your tank?

My tank is a 60cm by 30cm by 36cm and I used to dose around 3ml per day. Since I have CO2 right now, I have stopped dosing Excel already. Currently no, but would start soon, minimal dosage.
