Currently i am using eden 501 for my 1.5ft aquarium, and I just bought a new chiller.

Now i found 1 problem. The hose that is used by eden 501 is smaller than the intake of my chiller.

    2 questions.
    1. How to get around with this hose problem? Is it ok to use a smaller hose?
    2. Eden 501 provide max 300l/hr and chiller's minimum output is 250L/hr - 1200L/hr. Although in the borderline, technically i should be ok. But do you think i have got my self covered?

Wad chiller are you using? Sounds like a HS-28A or Hc-150A. If its the Hailea, you can change the intake. If i'm not wrong, 2 sets of 2 different diameters for the intake are provided.

You have to consider that the 300L/H is when the canister is empty. Filled with media and coupled to the chiller, expect the flow rate to drop. When the canister gets dirty and all clogged up, the water flow will be very weak. Consequences: Chiller will kick in very often and for a very short amount of time. This will shorten the life of the compressor and drive up your electricity bill. The weak flow will affect the water circulation in the tank. This is not idea if you want to keep shrimps.

actually no, your eden 501 is way under power to work with chiller. Normally the flowrate will reduce by 20-30% with media inside.

    Indeed it's hs28a. Good spoting!

So in this case i will need to upgrade my canister?

Do you have any suggestion on what would be ideal canister?

My tank is 1.5ft, but may consider to upgrade to 2ft due to lack of space

Yes. The Eden 501 would be good as a stand alone filter; ie 2nd independent filter for the tank. I'm using a Eheim 2222 to drive my HC-150A (similar specs to HS-28A). That filter has a specified output of 500L/H. If you plan to upgrade, you should get a Eheim 2224, 700L/H. It should be more than enough for your future 2 ft tank.

Many of the bros here are using Eheim canisters for their tanks. More expensive, but reliable and pretty much maintanence free.

If going for 2 ft you can consider going for 950l/h. Im using a 2224 with hs28a. Chiller kick in quite often till i mod it with external thermosensor. It should be within 200 for the 2222 and 2224.
