Hi all,i'm relatively new to the planted scene,i intend to use lushgro aqua(one in all fert),seachem equilibrium( stabilise the K,Mg,Ca ),Dr Mallick's Micro Fert (supplement trace elements)and maybe just throw in KH2PO4.My base fert is already in place with monster roots,just need to supplement my water column. Would this be a good mix, i understand requirements vary from tank to tank and in the long run the condition of the plants would be the best benchmark,but generally will this combo do?Mine is a 2ft setup,diy CO2 and 72W of lighting.
Incidentally where at this point in time will i be able to find seachem equil and at what cost?
For my other 2ft, I use only LushGro Aqua, LushGro Micro and KH2PO4. Lights and CO2 same and it's fine. By base is JBL instead or Root Monster though.
LGA has K and Mg too; Equilibrium, it's up to you? Ca can come from Coral and it also provides the CO3 for pH buffering.
The reason i try to refrain from using coral chips is because i do not want a situation whereby i find it hard to reduce my ph,think would be easier to control kh via sodium bicarbonate.The only tricky part is the K,Mg & Ca problem,so i just want to try out seachem equil,hopefully it would be a hassle free experience. Any feedback from you guys in here who have already tried and tested the product?
coral chip should be bag up and left hanging at the side of the tank, remove when you have achieve the desirsed level
Simon,with each water change,wouldn't the Kh drop again? Then you put in the bag of corals again? Wouldn't this take a longer time to get your desired Kh as compared to baking soda?
Baking soda only increase K value and instantly, sometimes done wrongly will stress your fishes , while using coral chip the process is slowly but it contains mg, k, ca...
Simon it still brings me back to the same question,so when i perform a water change(say 50% per week),i have to insert the bag in again rite to achieve the desired level? Wouldnt this be a slower and more inefficient way of releasing Ca,Mg and CO3 as compared to baking soda(2dkh per day) or other forms of Ca and Mg?
If you leave your coral in the filter sump like I do, with regular water change, the KH will equilibrate at some point. That point of equilibrium depends on how much and how often you change your water. Yes, it's harder to control compared to using baking soda.
Being new and all, may I suggest soething like TMG or seachem flourish for the start to get your tank stabilized. Maybe from there you can work yourself to something more advance IMO, Lushgro products.
Merely a suggestion.
Well let's put it this way i wouldnt mind using off the shelves tmg or seachem if i wasnt on a budget but anyway kudos for the suggestion though.
