When we want just black background for our tanks we usually buy those black plastic sheets from LFS and paste them at the back of the tank. The problem is that the plastic sheet does not stick to the glass panel nicely. Sometimes it look awful.

I wonder if there is anyone tried using the dark semitransparent sticker that car assessories shops use to darken car windows and windscreen? I am pondering on the idea and think that maybe it will create interesting effect.

are you refering to those thin film-like plastic sheet?
if so, you can try to spray the glass surface with soapy water.
paste the plastic sheet on the glass surface and adjust it correctly.
use a ruler and smoothen the air pockets out.
if you are refering to thicker plastics, you can use silicon to stick them to the glass.

solar films may not be good. we do not know whether the adhesive is safe for fishes.
unless you stick it on the outside of the tank.
