hello everyone. i am planning to setup a 4 tier fish/shrimp rack with the use of eheim 2260 together with four 162L tanks (top 3 tanks with overflow).

the specifications of the tanks are likely to be 90x60x30 and the total height of the whole system will be about 2.15m high.

i have 3 questions about this setup.

    1. will the canister be able to pump the water up to 2+ metre high?
    2. is the flowrate too much?
    3. how should it be done so that there would likely be no "dead-flow" area in the tank?

    thanks much.

Bro, i believe you are inspired by marine tank shop setup, in freshwater =4 tier overflow (linked up) is not recommended due to diseases prompt and water chemistry issues
Your canister cannot pump water to that height, you need a powerful submersed pump

I suggest you go with individual hangon filter

I worry that your floor cannot take it. 90x60x30 is about 160 liters each. 4 of them in stack may exceeding HDB regulation, unless you stay at condo or landed property.

oh thanks for the information, but i'm currently living in a non-hdb estate.

yes, i was thinking of going with an all-in-one setup for different kinds of shrimps, may link or may not like with chiller (not sure yet).

the eheim 2260 says something about height, being 3.7 metres.

and also, is it possible to have the canister sitting at about 1.5 metre height beside the tier rack?

2260 max head is 12 feet which is around 3.6m, shouldnt be a problen for your rack height.

so it's possible that i can park the filter on the floor, and just buy extension hosing/piping for the canister right?

regarding the flow, is 2400lph too much for shrimp setup?

yes. you can place the canister on the floor. but you have to worry about the intake

the point of inlet should be higher than the canister inorder for it to work

about the flowrate,as long as you split the outlet accordingly, the flowrate can be slowed down

example if there is only 1 outlet, the flowrate at THAT outlet will be 2400.

but if the outlet is split to 4, 2400lph/4 will give you 600lph for each outlet.

that is to say if my lowest tank will be sitting just 6-8 inches off the ground, it'll not work?

Or maybe use your lowest tank as sump tank. All the water from higher tank overflow to sump tank. You use couple of pumps for each tank or 1 big pump and split but controlling the split flow going to each tank will be tricky

that will depends on how high is your canister liao.

all canister needs the siphon effect to help pull the water into the canister and the motor will push out the water.
