what lens are you using? the kit lens? any filters?
feeling around my new digicam, here are some pixs out of the many I took..
here is the average info:
manual focus, Tv( Shutter Speed )1/50, Av( Aperture Value )5.6, ISO Speed 800, no flash, no tripod
still unable to get a good clean shot... time for a flash and a tripod i guess
feel free to comment
use flash, iso 400

chris: kit len 18mm-58mm
choy: have to recover and patch the hole first []
some of my espei looks that bloated, diff var.? cause as you can see both espei I took looks different, perharps one of hengli?
Hey!!!
Another DSLR user! More picture soon yah!?
Pretty good for your first few shots with the camera. Quite easy to use for the automatic modes right? Don't forget to set white balance on your camera for more acurate colors.
Simon, don't go buying accessories without trying if possible. Let me know what you want to play with and I see what I can do to arrange for you to sample. But the most important thing for your camera would be a dry cabinet. Keep your camera and lens fungus free. If the CMOS sensor is fungus infested. the 300D is as good as gone!
hwchoy! When are you going to join us? Think about the time savings with the DSLR in your hands. Very much like the Nikon SLR you are playing with now. Tempting?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
benny,
no new equipments till I understand what I need. actually, I do like the AF for still subject, comes to fish, I like MF.. can u bring along a flash tomorrow?
here are some of the things I might buy in the future
- macro len
- flash
- maybe a Tele len
I'm looking at the sigma 105mm for tele and abit of macro.. any comments?
choy,
benny is right, you will enjoy using a dslr
I'm looking at the sigma 105mm for tele and abit of macro.. any comments?
^^ well, 50mm sigma macro also 1:1 macro.
sigma 105 extends out, so it might be kind of annoying to use.
canon 100mm f2.8 is fast and good.
--
I've some personal regrets with the flashes I bought.
I've now 1 x ST-E2 and 2 x 420EX.
--
What I do suggest though is getting either a sigma 500DG Super or a 550EX to start so as to benefit from FEC adjustment. the sigma 500DG is cheap enough to start (about 330 from TCW)
but I tihnk I should have gone for
3 x Sigma 500 DG Super, *but then people do complain about ETTL metering yet some people say its good. so dunno about it*
OR
1 x 550 EX + 2x 420EX.
550EX as master and to set FEC, 420EX for slaves.
I might consider selling the ST-E2 and getting the 550EX in future...
my other main regret is my new MH lights are so bright I can shoot *my* tank without flash. scared got buy white elephant, but canon's are easily resalable.
Hi Simon,
Good choice of additions in the right order. But if you can live with your current lens first, I would suggest the flash before the Macro lens.
Also, plan in such a way that you get a camera bag now that can fit all you are eventually going to include. Loupgarou was quite happy with his bag that fitted the 300D perfectly (and I must say it's a good bag). Until his sudden and rapid acquisition of accessories exceeded the capacity of that bag (within a week?).
p.s. I'll bring some fun stuff for you to play with. []
We'll talk about macro options then. You want some books as well?
Cheers,

Post your sales here before you go to clubsnap! I'm sure hwchoy and Simon wouldn't mind an almost new flash setup that's still under warranty![----------------

I suggest you get a nova 3 aw or nova 4 aw..
nova 2 aw (the one I have) is good enough for
1 macro lens, 1 kit lens, 1 other small lens (maybe tamron 28-300 xr apo), 1 flash and its a tight fit.
alternatively, buy a car.
I'm pondering some kind of flash setup that can sit on the tank.
remember the clip mount at cathay. except those are $160 for plastic...grr.
main point:
if you put a black plastic corrugated board to block the light from the MH, then there's no place to position the flash properly so that the IR beam triggers the slaves.
anyway, hope my new tank don't have this problem since I can place the flash on the euro brace..(and hope it doesn't fall in).
Well, you can count me in too. Just got a EOS300D as well but still not able to utilise the camera fully until an external flash is purschased.----------------

Anyway, I normally use F11 for tank shots. Was told that any smaller wouldn't really make much difference, especially for DSLR due to the pixel size on the CMOS. Besides, F11 gives me sligher higher shutter speed compared to F22. This will prevent the fish from blurring.

Chris, I haven't bought my ST-E2 yethint hint [:

Hey, I'm still playing with Nikon F4 man, wait till you look through the view finder, you'd want to rip out your LCD and stamp on it [:0] The AF with the Tamron 90mm 1:1 macro is fast enough to track fishes as long as I can keep the focal point aimed at the fish, impressive siaz.

Simon, if you have a few of the espei looking that bloated, and if they're not sick, then perhaps they're female? but definitely not hengli lah.
