Initially, my setup was really simple only a HOF, light and a Dymax fan. Temp is abt 28deg but it could be higher due to hot weather. Then my shrimps started to die 1 after another so felt bit depressed. Few more pics of my tank.

Nice looking tank..![]()
This is after I added a chiller, external canister filter and custom installation set eheim rainbar. 3rd pic is nice frogbits from bro eviltrain and also I gotten more shrimps & shrimplets from a colleague because he reset his tank.
You have space and the equipment to go for 1.5ft tank![]()
lol ya since you spend so much on the equipments, chiller
soon you will have a full CO2 system
care to share your water parameter?
One thing to mention
Do you think the ikea looking coffee table going to withstand the weight of your tank?
What is the wooden block air stone ? I though that was for marine purpose?
I like the rock.. what rock is it?
Maybe can plant some weeping moss on top of the rock and let it flow downwards
and some hairgrass on the background on the left
also suggest to replace the sponge filter to the bio type fine mesh if your CRS give birth to baby shrimplets to avoid been suck in

Nice looking tank! On a side note, may i know what canister you're using and it's flowrate? I'm interested in getting a chiller for my setup too. BUt my tank is 60cm by 10cm. Equivalent to a 1 feet. I'm worried that my flowrate may be too strong. Do you find that a problem?
glad to see the shrimps doing well in your tank![]()

You should ask tobi about the kick in and kick out duration as well.
For my 1ft cube, I use a Ehiem 2213 but I do not have chiller as it is for office. The outlet I am using a lilypipe as I find that the water gushing out of the rainbar is too strong.
You can see that tobi is using a DIY rainbar which he probably designed such a way to have lesser pressure for the water gushing out.
Make sure the frogbits dont crowd the whole tank. Will block the lights going into tank. Anyway nice cube tank
With height i like![]()
Actually I'm also using Eheim 2213 and custom rainbar from Eheim called Installation Set 2 under Eheim Accessories. I point the rainbar output towards the back of the tank and the current seems to be weaker than when I initially using Eheim Liberty. Why I use the custom rainbar is because I dont like the way the stock rainbar comes with a very weird 90deg-angled green plastic for hanging the piping at the edge of the tank. The inlet pipe I just use the stock green color J-pipe that comes with the filter. The chiller is from a colleague sort of T-loan.
I have gotten another 2ft tank which was delivered last Sat. Now pending my acquisition of a new filter and chiller capable of my new 2ft. What prompts me to do so is 2 wks ago it seems like my 1ft cube is not very stable so some shrimps died and altogether about 10 of them over a wk. This is even after I installed the chiller. But since last wk it seems like everything is quite fine and stable. A berried shrimp from my colleague had already given birth to abt 10 shrimplets and they're happily growing in my tank.
Attached is my new tank.
I think because I'm using a chiller that's why my current doesn't seems to be that strong compared to bro gryphon's. 2213 flowrate is about 400lph. With regards to flowrate for your tank, perhaps it is better to leave it to the other senior's or experts in AQ to answer because I'm also receiving advice either from my colleagues or bros in AQ. Right now for my 2ft, I have not yet decided which filter to use but chiller is more or less settled at Hailea HS-28A. I have 1 colleague using HS-28A with Eheim 2224 and he's saying current's bit weak using with his custom rainbar for his 2.5ft tank but if not using rainbar its alrite. As for your tank because its 60cm by 10cm it seems to me mite be a bit trickier due to the lack of width.
My pH is about 6.5 and temp is 24-25 deg. I'm using the 5-in-1 test kit so readings not very accurate except pH i used the liquid tester.
However, my test strip output for GH and KH are in between 0-30 and 0-40 respectively. NO2 and NO3 is close to 0. These readings are what I can best gathered from the test strip.
The Ikea coffee table I thought is quite sturdy and should be able to handle the weight but I will monitor it closely. But there again I'm moving on to my 2ft once it's cycled.
The wooden block is air stone leh my colleague also using so I follow...hehe...
I got those rocks from NA but I don't know what kinda rock it is. Got another one which I didn't use.
As for the sponge filter no use liao because I have change to external filter using J-pipe with Gush mesh. Thanks.

Time to setup your 2ft tank
What is the height of the tank? If it's high enough, a stronger flow rate might not be a problem.
Even though many agree that one can never have too much filtration, the strength of the current affects a lot of things in the tank.
Too strong a current can result in:
1) Soil being 'blown' up.
2) Hair algae bloom which is unsightly and might even strangle smaller shrimps.
3) Plants generally don't do well in strong currents.
You can point the rainbar towards the back of the tank to bring the current to a minimum.
But I've found that this method doesn't really move the water around that well.
I'd recommend drilling bigger holes on the rainbar instead.
That being said, if you're intending on getting a chiller, I still think it's still better to get an external canister filter with a higher flow rate.
Very nicely decorated, keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing!
