I am confused as i read that if there is surface agitation co2 will escape out of the water but this site shows that there must be surface agitation to prevent algae ,which is the best position to place the rainbar in the water or above the water n o2 is required both for the plants and to reduce algae .thanks.

The blog was mention moderate surface agitation. Yes its very subjective, what you think moderate may not what I have in mind. Placing rain bar above the water is not what I call moderate. Gentle water surface movement create by lily pipe that what I call moderate surface agitation.

If you plant grow well, you do need to care much about O2. Your well grow plants can generate O2 much more than the water can absorb. That is when you see pearling. However O2 alone will not reduce algae.

I am also confused what you trying to explain

which is the best position to place the rainbar in the water or above the water n o2 is required both for the plants and to reduce algae
plants dont need O2, plants give O2 after Photosynthesis which the fish needs (most important)

1st thing , no matter what you have to do surface agitation to improve the circulation and also mosquito cannot lay eggs and algae cannot bloom as there is a lot of dissolved oxygen
and because it drives away CO2 that is produced in the water, plants may not get enough CO2 for photosynthesis

2nd thing, ppl introduced Dissolved CO2 in the water to aid more demanding plants, but also monitor the CO2 level otherwise it may kill livestock

so its self conflicting yet its a balanced system..

So i guess you should know to place the rainbar above the water or in the water by now

    Re: I am confused

Surface Agitation will insure sufficient gas exchange and will prevent the surface film from forming. Even though plants will provide lots of O2 through photosynthesis especially in CO2 injected systems it can’t hurt to add extra O2 via the surface agitation.
One should bear in mind that Oxygen is one of the most important electron acceptors involved in animal and bacterial metabolism.

At higher temperatures O2 levels decrease especially during the summer. When the temperature gets higher it is beneficial to create a strong surface agitation or add another power head for this purpose only. I have found that it is not the temperature that affects the fish/shrimp/plants during summer months but rather the low O2 levels. At higher temperatures the bacterial metabolism accelerates and uses up lots of O2 for nutrient recycling.

E.g. I live on the top floor and during the summer time the temperature of my tanks do go up to 31’Celsius. In the past I believed that this would harm fish, shrimps and plants. Now I know better. What I do under such extreme conditions is that I create a very strong (but no splashes) surface agitation in all my aquariums for good gas
exchange and I never experience any problems with fish/crustaceans or plants.
In planted aquariums keeping good Oxygen levels is as important as keeping good CO2 levels.
This is the part what i mean .

    Re: I am confused

i have 2 air stone on 2 sides of the tank and a HOB and i place the airstones near surface water instead of underwater
mainly to eliminate dead spots and circulate the surface

i increase my O2 when i add CO2 or bioplus/BB regularly to accelerate the bacteria grow

O2 is usually abundant for livestocks as much as our air during surface agitation
We seldom measure oxygen level as if livestocks always surface up to the water, its a sign that oxygen level is v low

if splashes are issue, there is this product call totto bubble stopper
