hi guys, i have a question here.
i guess many ppl are keeping crs in ph between 6.2-6.8
but from what i know, acid will erode shells overtime right? or why do we still provide them with water that is slightly acidic?

also question, what is the lowest ph value that your crs can survive in? can it go below 5?

    Re: lowest ph for crs?

i read crs still survive in 5.4pH
they can survive in acidic water, so they are made to

unlike snails, their shell will indeed corrode away, like whitish scars

supplement of calcium will improve the shrimp health and shell

Hmmm.. My lowest pH that i have ever kept crs in is 5.8. but even then, i do realise that crs in lower pH actually do display nicer colours as i compare them to my other tank that was maintained at 6.2. Just my 2 cents worth.

The water from your tap is more than 5.5

Yes, eat alot of meat and then pee pee inside.
    Concentrate can reach 4.6!!!

Alternatively, have lot of fish in the tank for the waste.

The Shrimps die and disintegrate at a speed you would even see their bodies Ph 4.5 is already a weak acid.. try keeping them in H2SO4..see if they can survive that... 4.5 is no problem then..ahaha

hi guys, my crs tank water is having low ph. Used liquid test kit and results compared to the colour chart shows it to be on the low side of ph5+. Colours of the crs are not looking too good also...anyway to up the ph slightly in a safe way?

You can try adding some coral chips to your filter canister or tie them in a small packet with mesh and put it in your rank to increase the pH if you want.

    Re: lowest ph for crs?

yea can get coral chips to raise ph. but i dun suggest puting it in filter if it is troublesome to remove or add in. can just place it in a tank corner or wherever, then observe the ph. once it reach ur desierd level, u can remove the coral chips.
However after the removal of the coral chips, i do not know whether your ph value will decrease again. not very good to let it to keep flactuating. so it is best u try and error. for example u can consider putting a small amount of coral chips permanantly in your filtration system to counter the low ph cause by the soil.
    hope this help

but if you put coral chip better to monitor the PH closely.....cause previously i put in my room tank but never go monitor then PH shoot up to 7.5 many of my shrimp dead.

Do you have driftwood or bogwood in your tank. If yes, try remove it and monitor. Driftwood tends to lower PH.

    Re: lowest ph for crs?

Hi guys thanks for the advice. My tank quite bare. Only some moss tied on a volcano rock and some ceramic rings. Probably will find more accurate equipment to measure actual ph see how.
