Well, I will need to ask you do you really need an exact temp of your tank?

For me, I just buy one and monitor it's reading. say 30 degree (not necessary accurate). as long is it hover between a couple of degree it is okay, but if it shoot up too much then i know something is seriously wrong.

The point I am saying is that it is use to montior the water temp, but not to get exact water temp.

    Hi Mates:
I believe is from the design of the thermometer. Look if you are using, those type which has a long wires running from a sinker like object) Most like it’s a thermo-couple thermometer. These are sensitive thermometer using the wire to convert a pulse of current to the main display. And if your wire is place to close lights or any equipment, it will cause the temperature to rise and cause fluctuating temperature across the whole length of wire. Useless you are able to insulate the wire against the surrounding by a thicker coating on the wires (Or you soak the whole set in the tank…..ha…hahaha) or else ………arrr………no chance mate!

Use a mercury thermometer sensitive enough to measure just at the right place in the tank.

    Cheers!
