Depending on your purposes, a nano tank with a separate filter might be a good start. For a simple planted nano tank, any of the mini tank sets will do.
agree with bro Storm. As much as i love the IQ5 compact design, i hated the IOS system. it kept me busy every single day as i had to top up the water to prevent the IOS from drying up. In the end, i sold it off and got a normal GEX nano tank

IMHO, normal tank without equipment is better;-

    Pros
    1) Cheaper(tank only)
    2) You can size up the filter and lights (set equipment normally works poorly)
    3) A lot of size of tank and equipment for you to choose
    4) You can buy some 2nd hand equipment/tanks from AQ bros, but have to wait for good deal .. Bookmark the marketplace threat like me.. Patience is essential...

    Cons
    1) More expensive after whole set is bought (filter+ lights):- but you get what u want instead of selling off underpowered lights or filter.

As for filter concern, try to get the one with flowrate around 6-8 times your tank capacity, so you will have good filteration even after you have decoration.

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)
