Hi guys. I have a 1.5ft tank running with a fan 24/7 - temperature between 27-28.9. Im wondering if it's worth it to run without the fan? I made a quick experiment and found out the tank temperature hovers around 28-28.9 without the fan. Any suggestions? The occupants and the plants in the tanks are doing well though, with the moss growing and all

hi diazman, u gotta know that a fan will only decrease the temperature by about 1 degree only. it increases rate of evaporation, which lowers temperature slightly when water changes from liquid state to gaseous state.

another thing to note is your occupants and plants. some moss can survive in 29degrees but some cant. but ofc, ideally lower temperature would be better for them. if your occupants are shrimps, especially CRS or BDS, the color might be affected by the temperature.

at 1.5ft, its probably not worth getting a chiller anyway.

    just my opinion.
Moved on from plants to predatory fishes, but still finding for inspiration for a 3ft planted tank.

no sweat on the fauna since i only keeping ember tetras. The more interesting point i took note is that the evaporation rate with or without the fan is the same

maybe because your tank is only 1.5ft, thats why the surface area isnt that big, hence effect might be smaller. for me, my 4 ft needs to refill 1 big pail of water weekly. and that is without fan

hi there john, u dont need to set up co2 for your plants. your plants are very simple. in fact, that hydrilla looking plant u got there, is one of the lowest maintenance plant around.

    cheers!

I do have pressurized CO2 for one of my tank simpy to aid in the growth of the moss , they are growing not to my liking. I find it disturbing that my tank temperature is @ 26C even in the hottest day, and it shoots up to 29 at some cool nights. Thermometer faulty here?
