    Hi all

Was doing a water topup and accidentally broke my small glass thermometer.
The red liquid inside the thermometer was disperse into my 5x2x2 tank. Immediately carried out a 40% water change.

Please advice if any bros had a similar encounter, is the red liquid harmful to my shrimps and plants??

    Worried

Should be just alcohol. No idea if shrimps have any problem with alcohol in water though... Drunken shrimps anyone? =)

The red liquid in a liquid-in-glass thermometer is mineral spirits or ethanol alcohol mixed with red dye. A grey or silver liquid inside the thermometer is mercury
consider relatively less dangerous than mercury, nevertheless shrimps are sensitive
    the amount in s 5ft X 2 X 2 should be very diluted..

I may also suggest put active charcoal to bind the extra content .. no idea if it even helps.

Then everyday do 10% WC .. the prev 40% change must be quite stress for the shrimps..
