what do i need for 3ft CRS tank?

planning to start a CRS tank - objective is to breed lots of them for enjoyment and maybe recover some running cost

filter: eheim pro / pro2
chilller: arctica 1/10hp
media: biohome
gravel: mosura soil

any comments on the above? what to look out for and what to avoid?

I would add a prefilter and sponge filter to this combination. That way the prefilter (filled with only wool) can act as your mechanical filtration and your canister can be filled entirely with biohome for the biological filtration and the sponge filter will provide enough surface aeration to give you plenty of dissolved oxygen. Apart from that, your set up looks good!

A few questions

Will you be doing a planted scape with CO2?
If so, are you intending on dosing fertilizers?

will get a prefilter and also a set of LED lights

don't think i'll use CO2 and fertilizers...the focus of the tank is on CRS and not the scape/plants

chilller: arctica 1/10hp
it should be ok as you are using LED light.
media: biohome
you can get ehiem subtract pro, power house media too
gravel: mosura soil
you may need up to 4bags to achive soil depth of 3-4cm

just get a drift wood tied with moss or fissiden for centre piece will be nice enough.

after putting in about 30 crs on 3 Dec 2011, i finally found 2 shrimplets yesterday!

today i spotted about 6 shrimplets and hope more will come soon

however, i found that one of my two otos has gone missing...worried that it may have died and pollute the water...do i have to conduct a search for it?

Do share your setup with shrimps photo. But IMO 3ft tank with 30 CRS kinda looks empty, anything added to beautify tank scape? Care to share what grade of CRS are you keeping?

didn't want to stir up the whole tank to find the other oto...

just tested my water and ammonia is 0 - so should be ok
