Finally got a decent shot of my Ap. bitaeniata ... well, at least the male []

Anyone else into Ap. bitaeniata? Hoping to get some tips on how to breed them - The female laid eggs on two occasions so far but none hatched into fries. My guess (judging from the female's behaviour then) is that the male failed to fertlize the eggs. []

I got this pair from Eco-culture a little over a month ago. Hard to believe that the juvenile male grown from 3cm to 5cm (body length) in just a few weeks. I'm planning to get myself another pair of bitaeniata (different colour var) or medenzi in 1-2 month's time - Setting up a tank needs time and $

Yes, this 1.5ft low-light tank is setup just for my pair of bitaeniata - They are sharing their home with 3 otos, 3 rocket-tail pencilfishes and some shrimps (yamatoes + malayan). My malayan shrimps are reproducing at the moment (I have lots of baby shrimps) but I'm sure they will get wiped out once my apistos find out how tasty they can be.

I am wondering how your shrimps survive initially with your apisto. I have never been successful in apisto and shrimp combination.

Hi, Otos are sneaky for your apisto to guard if there is any spawn. Prawns are also not recommended if you want free swimming fries. Less the stress of occupants in the tank, I'm sure you will get the max num of fries survival. Good luck.

Humm..... I don't think otos will affect the apisto spwan as they eat only vege. As for shrimps and prawn....... hey if you apisto, I don't the shrimp will stand a very high survving rate and the shrimp will keep themselves far away from them. Shrimps are apisto natural food back in the wild.
I have a pair of A. trip keep their spwan rate at around 70% even I have 20 otos and some yamato (>10 ) in my 4ft planted tank.

    Wow awesome coloration...

i think that ur PH have to b reduce 4 them to breed cause they are known to be hardy breeders.Total hardness 1-2 dH, pH around 6. Temperature 27C. An aquarium of 60 cm or more in lenght is advisable. Its have hish mortality rate not very productive around 40 juveniles.
