    Hi,

    My new setup 4 feet tanks;

    Length; 120cm
    Width; 40cm
    Height; 60cm (Gravel around 10cm)
    Light; 4 x PL 55w each = 220w 8 hours a days

Fertilizer per week; 5ml Seachem trace, 2.5ml Seachem Phosphorus, 2.5ml Seachem Nitorgen, 1 teaspoon of powder K

Plant; Red lotus, 1 java moss log and a few other plants that is low lying. Going to change most front plant to a type call "87" by the LFS owner. But plant not growing well, especially the big leafy one behind the moss log. Leave rotting from the top.

Any ideas is my light or fertilizer or what is lacking? Thanks all for the help

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

See this site for more info
    http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...ng-leaves.html
The plant is called Spatterdock, cow lily or Big Wave(that's what my LFS used to call it).
One reason could be snails eating at the rhizome. Snails? Get a drawf puffer or a loach to " finish" off the snails.
Sometimes, after flowering, the plant dies off and will rejuvenate again in a month or so.

By the way, consider shifting the red lotus from the right side to somewhere off centre so the red leaves are set off against the spatterdock's green curvy leaves. Think Golden Rule.
And please shift the CO2 to the back.
    Great job so far!

    Hi,

There is no snail in my tank so far; Thanks to the LFS where I get my plant, almost 1 month and no sign of snails...should be ok.......

My plant (big wave) leave is turning white and then just decay and rot away.....so wondering if my light and fertilizer enough but all my other plant slow grower.....my nana log start to show sign of algae growth liao (black spot) and I have been plucking the leave away ....maybe have to convert to another log moss

The idea of the contrast is good but hopefully my big wave survive first.....any other ideas how come they are dying off?

Between my CO2 is at 0.7 bubbles per second

    Just a suggestion

Ps,still nice looking tank Happy Planting.

50 cm tall. it is a 80 GAL or 90 GAL tank? Light might be abit short. if nitrate is not absorbed by big wave plants.. they will fade away or melt like mad.

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

    Hi,

My tank design a bit wrong, the outlet pipe for water is set a bit high, keep disturbing my water surface, so my CO2 bubbles all move to the top and then gone from the disturbance in water surface. Just ask my tank maker from aquatic style to set it lower. After that gg to increase my CO2 flow to 1 bubbles per s.

The length is 1.2 m, width is 0.4m, water level is around 0.4m (light to bottom is around 0.5m) so it a 50 gal tank only.

Hope the CO2 can improve after setting the pipe lower.

you need to move the water surface, just like how Amano does it. zero 02 will hurt conversion of ammonia to nitrate. and ammonia creates algae : )

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

    Hi,

I set my bubble to 2 bubbles per second, so I cannot move the inlet pipe too low because I need it to disturb the water surface?

Between, I try something new....mine is a planted sump tank, so I just purchase a special atomizer system where I directly inject the CO2 into the return path of the water into the tank. The effect is better, last time I see my CO2 bubbles float to the top and then got suck into the filter after floating on the surface or just escape into the air.

Now it really all dissolve as I can't see any CO2 bubbles, hopefully it mean all the CO2 really get dissolved and come out with complete dissolved rate as claimed by the system which is expensive .

I doubt can dissolve. But that doesn't mean you can't. Have fun..

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

I also have a sump tank. I use an airstone placed right at the return pump, and the CO2 gets sucked right into the pump and comes out as dissolved fine mist.
    Works and cheap too.

The Spatterdock plant is a type of lily plant.

If there is insufficient light, it grows tall and spreads out the leaves.

Do you have enough depth of substrate ? The Spatterdock's roots can grow deep, so please ensure at 5-6 inches depth where the rhizome is planted.

If you are willing to take drastic measures, uproot the rhizome and check for any decaying / black portions, which can be cut off, so that the main portion of the rhizome can be saved, otherwise the whole rhizome will just decayed away.

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

ya, its another good method that I want to try till i see the inline atomizer.....one worry about sucking in bubbles into the pump is that air-lock might occurred where air is trap inside your pump and it spoil.

Re: My New 4 feet Tanks

I have tried out CO2 using the airstone for a year.
It works well with a strong inlet pump in the sump.
I have not experienced any airlock issue.
Recommending it because it is an cost effective method. Remember to get a very fine airstone, so the CO2 comes out in small bubbles.
