Eh .. i was thinking how long to On my light, in a low tec tank, using excel and fert. The tank is not exposed to natural light from window.

i am now having 2 intervals of 5 hours
    9am - 2 pm
    7pm - 12 midnight

so far only floaters are doing well, my glosso are crawling upwards and hairgrass seems stagnant.

should i change to 6-8 hours continuous? like 4pm to 12 midnight

I have to set the light at night .... so that i can view it after work.

Sounds like my lapis tank in the house.
My hortwort doing well, crypts also.
The glosso almost all died, hg not spreading.

My bad for not using basefert and thinking treta sticks + root monster are ok for the 2 failing.

    we learn from mistakes right

not only that .. the stupid otto fish rage sometime and uproot quite a few carpet grass, i use lava pebbles to secure them , but hg cannot secure in this way.
i read a method to cultivate HC, Hg , glosso is to plant and put a glass piece over .. (like shatter glass bottle) to cover them till they are spreading hortizontal and prevent uprooting..

Re: Duration of light variation ?

Sometimes when glosso grows upwards, it may not be because of light, but poor CO2 supply.
Also, I doubt changing light duration would actually help if the glosso cannot get enough light because it may be a lighting penetration/intensity issue?

If you do not want to inject CO2, my suggestion is to lower the water levels and reduce the floaters. This brings the glosso closer to the surface where they can get more light and CO2, although you may also get more algae. In this case, try reducing to 8 hours of light.

Increase surface agitation so more air exchange can take place (do not do this if you're injecting CO2!), throw in an air pump if you have to.
I guess there's no chiller either since its a low tech? Glosso is quite difficult to grow if the water is not cool from my limited experience.

Hairgrass may be possible, but they grow really slow for me when I was using a low tech tank

lower water level ... cannot .. got brigitte and otto inside

i have a air pump running on small power near the surface to keep water surface moving (prevent mosquito laying eggs)
I have in on even when i dose excel into it when the light is On

as a fact my tank is so clean that there is no algae growing .. -_-! wish there were some growing so that the shrimp/otto can eat on them

Is there a window period that the plant will take in Co2 for photosynthesis? before i turn on my airpump again...

Actually if you got brigitte inside, why do u need to keep the water moving to stop mozzie from breeding? They will eat the larva.

I think the window period is half an hour before plant takes in CO2 for photosynthesis once light turns on.
