Ctenopoma acutirostre available at polyart, clementi![]()
Hi all.
I'm new to the forum and have been living in Singapore since January (2nd time - also lived here 2005-2007).
I've been looking for these fish all over the east of the island, but no luck. I've contacted LFSs all over the island, but again no luck so far (still waiting for some replies).
The fish are:
1. Colisa fasciata (banded gourami)
2. Ctenopoma acutirostre (leopard spotted climbing perch). I saw these once in Simei back in March.
3. Pelvicachromis pulcher (common krib) or Pelvicachromis taeniatus (striped krib).
While not guppies, goldfish or platys, I didn't think these fish would be extreme 'exotics' that would be very difficult to find (except perhaps C. acutirostre). Maybe I was naive...
Is there any fish clubs here in Singapore that might breed them, as opposed to looking in LFSs?
Thanks heaps in advance all for any help you can provide.
Cheers,
Duncan.

cool thanks so much! And so fast! Awesome.
Welcome to AQ Duncan,
I take it that you're an expatriate working here? The fishes you mentioned, save for C. acutirostre, are not easily found these days, at least locally. I have seen all 3 species for sale at Polyart some time ago. The common krib can be found from time to time, however, it's not easy to sex these since they're almost always stressed in the LFS tanks. There are shops that stock "exotic" west african dwarf cichlids, but getting a pair out of a few bags is hard.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Thank you so much all. How good is it to have altruistic people around who just want to help?!?!?
I managed to grab 4 juvenile Colisa fasciata 2 days ago - a young man on AQ had imported a bunch 3 months ago and I found him by searching the scientific name via the search tool on AQ.
Polyart had nothing unfortunately, but That aquarium (Y61has C. acutirostre now and will be getting the other 2 spp later this week. Desmond and Jason there have been really helpful and professional. They seem to be much more on top of their animals than any other LFS i've been in contact with.
I also got availability of one or two of the spp from a fish farm or two (I've been looking far and wide!)
Fireaq I'll check out the Tampines LFS for future purchases - thanks for the tip. Nice to have a decent place close-ish to where I live.
Stormhawk, I am an expat but my dear wife's job is what has brought us here. I work part-time teaching secondary science.
Thanks again all!
