$400-500 , you can get 2nd hand chillers and 1st hand canisters...i recommand ehiem canisters though..2215,2224,2036 makes a good 2ft external canister and you probably can fit it with hailea 1/10hp chillers with external probes.

Aspiring to be.
I see... Will look around in the forum for 2nd hand chiller.. Any thing to look out for in resale chiller? ^^

Take note if the chillers have been used previously in a freshwater or saltwater tank.

if it was previously used for saltwater, run the chiller in a empty tank for a few days before using for freshwater. other than that, maybe u can test run the chiller in the seller's place.
Noted ! Thx for the advises ^^ guess will start hunting chiller next mth...overspent on other hobbies =)

2ft tank you can look for 1/10hp chiller china brand model are hailea HS28 or redsun CL280, Artica (model don't know )or teco (model don't know). Canister It depend on your setup if canister direct to chiller 1000l/h to reduce the kick n out. If you intend to have more media mean you will have dummy or pre-filter you will need higher range to prevent your chiller cut in and out. If you are looking at market chiller best get from people that have already mod with a external probe it you are getting from LFS than you might want to drop by Sim Lim Tower to get a external probe.
oh..if say i want to have media, what is the preferred ehiem canister to use? or it also have to depends on the chiller i will be using? Read some reviews on china chillers.. they are not as quiet, not so durable and also increase the electric bills compare to artica/teco? now in dilemma whether to burn my pocket once and for all.... headache....=(

You mean if you want to have more media meaning it is like this. You can check out ehiem website for the model (i m bad at remember model)
Suck in from tank thru canister (with media)-> dummy or prefilter (with more media) - chiller - tanks
Hmm depend on where you putting it if it is located in the living room a corner of the house there is very little noise actually. Unless you put in the room than even artica or teco also have noise. I've a redsun and hailea hs28 (hailea was sold and upgrade to 300A) i left it in the dinning hall 1 corner 2 chiller near to each other and i still can sleep in the living room. I think my the bubbling sound from my air pump is louder than my chiller. China brand is cheap on pocket as long as you maintain it by washing the filter once a month clean the air intake grill it could last you quite long. Well if you got a deep pocket than go for more branded but not necessary reliable they are after all mechanical equipment. Try looking in them i bet you will see parts from china also hahaha

I was thinking whether to run my chiller after my canister or to have another pump to run it. After consulting the seniors, they will think having it running with the canister will be easier.
anyone use gex chiller? it has a external probe and titanium exchange
still learning the hard way!!
Yea will like to use more media... will study more with ehiem canister ^^
what you mean by dummy/ prefilter? another powered canister or just a empty canister and let the water flow from 1st canister through it and into chiller? * newbie *
haha agree with you that after all, mechanical equipments will wear and tear. My tank is in the living room so with what you say, guess the noise wont be a big issue then.

A dummy canister is just a non-working canister. As you can see most of the canister are bigger in size thus the have a bigger space to whole more media. Meaning you have a fully working condition canister connect to a dummy canister non-working (use the space for extra media. the function is roughly the same as a pre-filter but in-term of volume it should be much larger)
Hi Bros, any review with Halea HS-28A chiller ? got an offer for it... need some advise whether to get anot ... solved my canister.. got eheim 2215 just now ^^

I was using hs28-a paired with eheim 2224 flowrate of 700litre per hour for a 2 x 1 x 1 feet tank. Started off with having frequents kick in and out for about short durations of about kicking in 10+ minutes and kick out 20 minutes or so. Made a few enquiries and recieved feedbacks that my flowrate wasn't enough to pair up with the chiller resulting in the frequent kick in and out of chiller.
So after running the chiller for about 1 month, i went to purchase the external thermoprobe from SLT and modify it, would say that the changes after modifying was pretty signifcant; kick in and out timing improved alot.

Hey man, if im not wrong, eheim 2215 does have lower flowrate. HS28-a is good actually, it was supposedly a newer model to replace hailea 150a.
I would say let it run for a couple of weeks and see how things goes. Perhaps its just for my case that it kicks in and out frequently.
I did my modifying by refering to Bro Gryphon's thread.

Just head down to Sim Lim Tower B1 and look for the shop called Acez Instruments. The external thermoprobe is about $20 or so, cant really remember exactly. The picture illustration on Bro Gryphon's thread will guide you through the modifying. Just that the dismantling is a little different where hs28a is a screw to remove the entire front panel. You might want to purchase the same connector so you can just connect it straight to your chiller without having to cut any of the cables / wires from another shop in SLT at level 3 or 4 at a corner.
