Larnaudia buesekomae, a waterfall crabfrom Thailand.
Crabs are simply my favorite animals. Over the years I've had many great experiences collecting & keeping all kinds of crabs from saltwater to brackish to freshwater & terrestrial crabs. The ones I like best however , are the freshwater crabs mainly because I've I have kept many of these successfully in aquaria.
Unfortunately , the number of species of ''fully'' freshwater crabs imported are very limited but this may also be a good thing. Why? There are an estimated 1000+ species of freshwater crabs and one in six of them are in danger of extinction primarily because of habitat loss and pollution. Unknown to many , Singapore has 6 species of native freshwater crabs of which three are endemic(only found in SG) and two of these endemics: Parathelphusa reticulata and Johora singaporensis are assessed as critically endangered by the IUCN.
I haven't been in the aquarium hobby for too long , so I'm not too sure what species have been imported before so if anyone here owns some it would be great to see pictures. I will be sharing some of mine in time as well![]()

Nice collection , do you have more pictures of the third crab? Can't tell what it is. . .I have gotten the panther crab Parathelphusa pantherina from either C328 or Polyart before.
I got the 3rd crab 3 years ago from Hong Yang and didn't manage to do a ID on it... But for panther, I have never seen them locally before.
And for your water fall crab from thailand, mind sharing the source and cost?
I may be able to I.D. if there are more pics. I collected the waterfall crab myself and to my knowledge it has not been imported for the aquarium trade. Crabs have never been really popular in SG I guess.
how big is the water fall crab? My crab from Hong Yang has got brownish shell with pale legs. Pincers are also bronwish with white and they like to "pop". It died on me after 10 months... However i am keen to explore options to secure the Indian tree crab...
The waterfall crabs range from 1-5 inches carapace length , is the first crab still with you? The second looks like [/I]Neosarmatium[/I]
First one is sesarmops intermedium, second one is neosarmatium meinerti, third one is sundathelphusa sp.
That is extremely outdated, i still have the same no. of tanks, but all the inhabitants have changed![]()
Lucas , are you only keeping the micro crabs now ? Was at C328 and saw some Neosarmatium,Sesarmops and Geosesarma a.k.a the vampire crab. Oh , and Cardisoma armatum as well.
yes, i use to have much more crabs, but sold all due to other commitments. May post some pics of my past collection![]()

The Sayamia was caught in a drain inbetween two shopping centres in Bangkok , which surprised me. Most crabs are not too hard to keep in aquaria.
