Yes, carefully take out the eggs out of the mother without your hands or fingers touching the eggs.. Use a small plastic spoon..

Thick you might need a bigger flow in my opinion..

    Re: artificial hatching

I had partial success when I placed eggs into a fine fishnet (with handle, for catching fish, not just the netting) and placed it directly at the outlet of my HOF. The falling water flushes the eggs and about a week later, I saw baby fire reds in the net! The remaining eggs failed to hatched and turned milky so I threw them out.

    Re: artificial hatching

Even though you might have remove the head and tail of the mama, as long as you don't scrape the eggs off the body, the eggs will still be infected by fungus even if your water flow is strong. You can actually scrape the eggs off with the macdonalds stirrer the small spoon from mosura products. The small scoop is just nice to scrape of the eggs. Just be careful not to damage the eggs while doing it.

    Re: artificial hatching

If you want to do this with minimal problems to the eggs, it would be wise to remove the flesh from the mother's body. Break off the head and use a penknife or something to slice the shell along the "spine" and then dig out the flesh gently. All this must be done under water in a separate container. Once done, rinse the leftover shell and the eggs in a separate container. If you expose the eggs to the air they might end up as fungus balls anyway.

A weak solution of methylene blue in a separate container with an egg tumbler may help to inhibit the fungus and create some aeration for the eggs. These egg tumblers are usually meant for cichlid and catfish eggs so you can probably DIY a small one easily for your purposes.

    Re: artificial hatching

Hmmm.. Still got a period of time before hatching. Rate of hatching most of them not very high.. Might have a few hatching out if conditions are right.
