Ok tks, I will keep a bucket of old water permanently on standby in my kitchen.

Anyway I now have 6 golden tetras and 4 ottos in this 1.5f tank. Will b adding 6 Sakura shrimps after my tank stabilizes. Is this too much fauna for a 1.5f tank?

i think it's not good to use boiled water. the water parameters won't be right. (someone needs to confirm this.)

regarding the amount of fauna, i think it's fine for 1.5ft.

Don't worry too much about it. They will hunt for food when they get hungry.

Oh the ottos started eating the wafer algae after 6 hrs. And the tetra just went crazy with the pellets... I still have alot of the mini pellets lodged in my moss! And i fed only very little. Really ugly...

The wafer algae don't make a mess since it is brown and will just rot into the soil anyway. But the pellets are bright orange and float everywhere into my plants. Arrg, tempted to give up feeding my tetras.

Try feeding a little at a time. What I experience with feeding my tetras when they are kept alone, is that they seldom like to come to the surface to feed when the food is first thrown in. Feed a bit, agitate the water surface slightly to get the pellets to sink, then feed a bit more and repeat. Sooner or later they will learn to feed nearer and nearer to the surface.

What i do in my tank is to put in a few surface feeders like guppies and betta. After several days of using the above mentioned method, my tetras all come to the surface to feed once they see the guppy and betta go into a frenzy for the food. A case of monkey see monkey do, else they go hungry. Hope this helps you somewhat. Patience!

Here's a updated pic of my tank.

I have added a new piece of dw and tied my nanas there (as advised by shadow, tks!).

Also added a new plant tt still needs ID! The light green bush at the bottom right, with small rough leaves. 4 days and doing very well, grew 0.5cm and no signs of melting.

I have also trimmed the stem plants by cutting off the top and replanting them. Everything is growing too fast...stress!
