I'm thinking of starting a 2 x 1.5 x 1 ft planted tank, and would like to get some advice on whether its better to buy a Juwel aquarium with packaged lighting and filter, or is it better longer run to get a normal tank and equip it with your own lighting/filter?

the Juwel aquarium seems quite neat, but my concern is whether you'll be locked in to Juwel accessories with a Juwel aquarium?

    thanks.

you could get a fairly nice tank made of sapphire glass for the price of a juwel. (partial panels).

    Hi Bro,

I think that juwel tank has the neatness of the tank fully taken care & it is really quiet. It is ideal if you are starting a planted tank. Moreover the water flow rate is just perfect for the plants.

If budget allows, it definitely a yes. What is the price the size you are looking for, Rekord 60/70? I have a Rio 240 for sale, maybe you can consider? Y pay more if you can pay slightly higher amt for a much bigger tank. Need not upgrade anymore.

    Cheers

I don't think the lighting is enough for most planted setup, unless you want to have only low light plants, which I don't think will satisfy the starter. Why not just start out with everything right? Get a nice cabinet tank from a local tank manufacturer and get a nice PL light set with enough wattage and a CO2 set from a LFS and you are set. No headaches about how to improve water flow or light wattage. IMO, it's as neat as the Juwel, furthermore, it's what the contents of the aquarium that's important isn't it?

One disadvantage on the Juwel tank is that, the filter is build in the tank. This make washing filter very tidous.
    And yes they are expensive[]
