The bioball serve no purpose in trying to mix co2 into the water column.

I thought i found a solution to dissolve co2 effectively in the tank. But problem surfaced after running for 1 week. Beginning to wonder if the set up was correct in the first place?. Please advice.
Attached the co2 tube to the top nipple in the reactor (pic below). My reactor has bioballs both in the top chamber and lower chamber. Power head was attached to the top outlet near the co2. My Powerhead is as shown in the picture but with only one outlet and the white tube with the sealed end. Both the co2 and the powerhead fixed to the same timer.
Suspect problem only occurs when timer kicks in. When i come back home from work found the bioballs not spinning. There were backflow of water up to the check valve. Pluck out co2 hose and the ball started spinning again. Fixed back the hose and bioball still able to spin and func tioning normally. Monitored for the next four hours bioball was still spinning.
