Hi all, i just placed in gravel into my tank today and i washed it like 8-9 times with clean water already, however, the water is still cloudy the 10th time i placed water in. And to make it worse, the packaging of the gravel did indicate that it was prewashed and ready for use. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem??

hehe, just leave the soil in the tank and fill up with water slowly, the muddy water will clear in 1-2 days time.

you still have to cycle the tank for a month before adding the soil.

by the way, what brand of soil did you bought?

Normal gravel or soil? Most will settle down in a day or two. Do some wc if want to get rid of the floating particles.

You might want to consider putting a plastic bag (clean) and slowly pour the water onto the plastic bag.

    Should help.

i believe TS is talking about gravel.

after washing just lay it into the tank, then let it settle and maybe do WC while it cycles.

It's gravel. I'm not sure of the brand. The packaging just reads superior gravel for aquariums. Thanks for all the comments, I'll lay it for a few days and see how it goes

NO. I mean you need to cycle your filter first.

After you put in the gravel, you have to cycle your tank for 1 month before adding fish.

    Re: Gravel clouding water

i think his gravel is like river sand type?
I will put the gravel in , then cover with clean plastic bag, (you can get it 1 or 2 clear plastic bags from the vegetable/fruits section at supermarket)
cut into half to open up the bag and you got double the surface !
overlay on to the gravel and pour the de-chlorinated water over the bag.

No matter how you pour the water, the gravel wont be stirred up.
When its half filled up, basically you are just scooping water and letting go in the tank's water, with the floating plastic bag below.

You can start to do your deco , then just leave it for a day for it to settle.

Of coz as what they said, you still need to do tank cycling for new setup.

I cycle 1-2weeks. But I import bb from another tank. Much faster.

Kiasu is actually good if brand new. Else having a dead fish floating is not such a good sight

    Re: Gravel clouding water

One way to avoid disturbances to the gravel: use an air tubing to transfer the water with the outlet flow directed to side glass, plastic sheet on gravel or those tauha plastic cover. The method is just gravity transfer of a pail of water higher than the gravel using air tubing. This method of filling is very slow and minimum or no disturbance to gravel , end result is very clear water . If you want it faster , after filling up 5 inch of water initially using air tubing , proceed with filling up water with flow directed a tray or tauha plastic on surface .
