    Hello all,

I am new to Aquatic Quotient.

I want to start keeping an aquarium at home.

Can someone suggest where I can find shops which sell tanks/stand and equipment.

I live in Balestier and since I am new to Singapore, can somone suggest a closeby place.

Would also require guidance from helping souls. Kindly add me as your friends pls. Promise not to bother you too much :-)

    Thanks.

welcome to AQ , may i know what are you interested to keep in the aquarium?

    - do take note that there are alot more steps to "prepare" your tank, other than just adding water, and dumping your pets insdie. Pleas do read up about cycling and the water conditions so you wont be wasting $$ to keep buying new livestocks. Also things about the filtration and substrate does matter alot too. Conditions of the water such as PH, KH, GH might also affect, so my advice is please read up more and provide a comfy enviroment for your pet.

Can slowly look around dont jump into the decision of what to purchase hastily. alternatively, there are always bro who are here selling their items who are quite cheap compared to shops.

Do enjoy your stay here, and get "poisioned" by this new hobby.

    Cheers!!!
Been awhile since i last kept shrimps/ fishes, please give me your kind guidance!

Thanks Alex for your immediate response.

I do have some experience in keeping Angel, Oscar and some cichlids. But there has been some break now(about 5yrs). I would like to start with some tetras, Angel or Discus.

As I indicated above, I am new to Singapore. So pls guide me on how to continue the passion.

    Regards

    Hi there.
There is a reference to LFS (local fish shop) in the forum. It is setup in google maps.

Do note certain lfs may be a tad out of date as it is less frequently updated.

Common lfs are, NA (opp Thomson medical, central sg), c328 (clementi florist@blk 328, 5 minutes from clementi mrt station), poly-art(3 shops from c328, open 24/7), bioplast (10 min from boon Keng mrt , not very sure it is near one of the Mac donalds)

    Good day

    Hi Sathia,

First of all, welcome to AQ, and Singapore! Where were you originally from?

I know there may seem to be a great deal of bargains in the buy/sell, but I hope you don't go that route. If you're new and inexperienced in equipment as such, it would be much better to buy brand new. Not only does it come with a warranty, but it gives you the peace of mind that it's working to its fullest potential. Not to the discredit of the sellers in AQ, but 2nd hand equipment are usually faulty in one way or another, be it aesthetics or functional. Nothing worse than to come back to a hobby full of excitement and expectation only to be fouled by a malfunctioning canister filter!

If you could share with us a bit on your budget, I'm sure we can come up with an adequate equipment list for you Including where you can get your tank... Oh, one more thing! What size tank are you looking to get?

Thanks for welcoming me here. I am from India Originally. I am totally out of this hobby for the last 5yrs when I was in dubai

My idea is to have either a planted tank with Tetras or one with Angel / Discus. I suppose I should start with a 3ft atleast (I read about the permissios reqd from HDB etc for 4ft and above ).

As of now I have really not thought of a budget as such since I am completely unaware of what to expect. Hope you can understand my position. The only thing I know is that this Island is a paradise for aquarium lovers.

I was planning to visit the Nature Aquarium in Thomson road or Seaview to get an idea about the costs involved. However this week I have been working quite late so may be Saturday I shall start the hunt.

Though the excitement is high, I also dont want to rush and fall flat. Kindly guide me on what it will cost for me to have decent setup basis a 3ft

    brgds

    Hi Sathia,

Welcome to AQ. Its good that you are connected to this site. I myself was a newbie and had benefitted immensely from the sharings and detailed advise from both hobbyists and moderators.

As for the basic cost I can only advise on the tank as the rest of the items were bought second hand. Its a 3ft x1.5 x1.5 thickness 6mm. Bought abt 6mths ago @$70 from Tropical at Pasir ris. In fact they have a wide selection. Do check it out.
