yes, during spawning, i observed this fish seldom eat. In my tank, they spawned like a normal apisto(probably due to the substrate i use).
First time parents, so brood wasn't big. Only a few survivors.

Any bros here have/had their Barlowi spawned before and can share some experiences?
I have a pair and I guess the female spawned, she's very yellow now, and the male never attacked her since she started wearing her " bright yellow dress". One thing she's different now is her mouth is always shut and she seldom eat. However I watched her ate once and that amused me; her mouth was shut all the while but when she saw food, she swam back to her cave (to deposit her eggs/fries I suppose) and came back gasping her mouth and ate the food. I thought I was lucky to be able to see this Apisto mouthbrooder spawn. However I would appreciate someone to enlighten : is she carrying eggs or fries in her mouth? How soon will she release the fries from her mouth to let them free swimming?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Marle, now that I know its normal that she doesn't eat that often, I won't be worry about it.
Most of the food was left uneaten. I wonder what they feed on sometimes

Mine hardly have uneaten food because the male is always hungry and i feed them more on fbw and live bs because they are less crazy over pellets.
I hate those uneaten food as I lost quite some fishes because of that.
The female and her brood.
