    Hi all,

I have been having problems with GH test kits. Every test kit that I have tried cannot give an end point, indicating infinity general hardness, especially those really old ones that fish shop tried to sell off cheaply. those new and expensive ones that I bought work for a few months, and become like this eventually. Does GH test kit has an extremely short shelf life? So far I have not experience this kind of problem with other test kits, i.e. ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and kH.

I have not been able to test my water for general hardness ever since. Anyone has any idea or experience the same thing?

    vexed and disappointed,
    ahhian

    Re: GH test kit problem

haha i tried before 30 plus drops actually on tap water as well, no end point, and the reagent bottle suddenly feel much lighter. one quick solution will be to buy the test strips that test for multiple parameters, but those are expensive and not worth the money considering i already have other test kits. Seems like it's been a common problem but no one actually point out before. Thanks granzord, for at least i know i am not alone in this problem now.

Test kit do have an expiry date and are always stamp on the box it came with. However, how the test kit is stored will sometimes affect the shelf life of the test kit especially the reagent portion.
