hello, if you are keeping nanas, i think a normal t5 2x24w will do, or maybe a 36w pl.
nanas don't need sand as they are tied to a medium, and say 8-10 hours of lighting will be enough.
I'm setting up a 2'x1'x1.5' tank. Want to keep different types of nanas. Fishes will mainly be galaxy rasboras, some tetras and cories. What type of lighting should i use eg. PL, T5, T8, LED... What wattage and duration to on the light to recommend? Only want to keep a thin layer of sand. Thanks in advance.

1 to 2 watt per gallon will be nice. Normal FL will do but if you want to have lush growth, its better to have some co2 input and soil. Not forgetting fert as well.
For your setup, I would used T8 as thats the minimum you can get from lots of lfs and the price for that for a 2ft tank is cheap.
Just wondering if your concept is focus on plants or fish?If plants might as well get soil instead of sand. 1 to 1 and half 9l of soil will be enough for a 2ft i guess.
Duration standard is 8,10 hours. Some go for 4.2.4. But it all boil down to your own free time etc.
Do post some pictures of your tank once its setupAnd dont forget to cycle your tank !!
Getting poison everyday
If it just for nana, 24w t5ho will do. Nana does not need soil unless you plan to plant other plant species.
All nanas will be on driftwood. Will be doing weekly dose of fertiliser. Layer of sand so as not to make the tank look 'naked'. Will not prefer to inject CO2.
Nanas are really low light requirement. People have reported growth only using ambient light. So no need for high lightning.
More than ONE fish = Fish
More than ONE species of fish = Fishes
I would go with LED. My nanas are in a covered Nisso cube tank in my balcony, no lighting except for ambient light. Doing really well.
