Saw your guppy picture in AF bought from Angelo. It is very nice, I also got tempted and wanted to venture into guppy keeping. Waiting for your picture.

    Re: Guppy Masters

My female guppy finally dropped this early morning, the female got such a big stomach that I keep wondering when the time will come. I saw only 4-5 fries and a couple of dead deformed one on the tank bottom. They are hiding amongst the flame moss and I managed to scoop out one and transfer to another holding tank with another 2-3 weeks old lone fry. The elder fry only just check up the new-comer and never show any aggression towards it. I saw that the male guppy is once again chasing after the female guppy, and maybe it will spawn again in weeks?

guppies are very ACTIVE ..hehe you will have fries every now and then, flame moss are excellent hiding place for fries..thats why i bought some from you...LOL..

hiding places is extremely crutial... as i have seen guppy parents chase down the fries right after their birth, but some lucky fries are clever enough to take shelter immediately at my moss area and hornwart bunch.Currently I have a hard time looking for the hiding fries as they constantly hide from sight...hehe... My wife likes to ask me:"what are you looking for??" LOL. I didn't separate them as my tank is heavily planted and its hard to even find the fries in the first place...yesterday's roll count was 4 fries...hehe...

Guppy parents eat their own fries if hungry, so have to feed a bit extra. i crushed the flakes to tiny bits so that everyone have their share and i often drop some shrimp food and small pieces of algae tabs at fries's hiding place.

some fries just does not make it, not sure whats the reason though.

Wong, they are very "active" indeed. If only our population multiply like them then we may not need so many "imports". I have managed to scoop out all the fries and they are in the same tank with their elder brother or sister which is about 3 weeks old. I will let nature takes its course again with the guppy parent and maybe I will get another spawn soon.

mine is 1 Male and 3 Female set up... can see fries now and then and the males likes to chase the females around...haha i just let nature takes its place...

Remove the dead fries, i really can't bear to watch Parent Guppy eating their fries dead or alive..guppy is not choose, they eat everything...

good to keep fries separately but hard to catch them in my tank without ruining the scape and toppling my moss tree...haha...

Haha, if we are allowed to have 2-3 wifes and NO NEED to care about food or next generation...confirm population multiply like rabbits... haha..better drop this subject..later get shoot down..SORRY MOD, AQUANOOB STARTED THIS FIRST..NOT ME..SHOOT HIM..I AM INNOCENT...LOL

I think your wife may want to know your "inner" thought and she will be very interested to know this thread.
Ok, keep to guppy now. Mine is only one male and one female, but it is looking good that they will continue to be "active".

    Re: Guppy Masters

You want "longkang" import or high quality "import"?

Male guppies will never stop pursuing the females, so once they've mated, the males can be isolated in a separate tank. Females can give birth to multiple broods from a single mating. I had some stillborn fry from my guppies some time back, but as always some of the surviving fry do not make it, for various reasons.

    Re: Guppy Masters

Too troublesome to separate...have more females and let him chase until he tired...haha...I leave it to nature..as I don't want to keep on shifting the fish into separate tanks as it may stress the fish...

    Re: Guppy Masters

Somehow, I found the female guppy dead when I got back home this afternoon. Has she been disturbed too much by the male after giving birth that it somehow become weak and died? Now, I am only left with a single Male guppy and about 7-8 fries.

the female is totally stressed out, yes she is disturbed too much by the male after giving birth. thus she died.

    Re: Guppy Masters

You need at least 2F to 1M so that the females won't be too stressed. Best is 3F to 1M. Heheh let him have fun there

    Re: Guppy Masters

If you let your male pursue the females too often, he too can die from stress. In some killifish, the males will die because they spend most of their energy in mating and do not last the whole season.

Since guppies are very much related to killifish, only difference being that they give birth to live young, I don't see why this won't apply to them. You can always isolate the male in a net breeder within the same tank, so the females can rest after giving birth etc.
