Hi all, i am thinking of converting my 2ft shrimp tank to a guppy tank. will it be advisable that i partition it into 3 parts so i can have more varieties of guppies?

because with this i will be able to continue using my canister filter and also one heater for all the guppies.

i have successfully breed some guppies (cheap ones $1 each) in my 1ft cube and i wish to go further by getting higher grade ones. with that said, does anyone have any advise on what i should/should not do with the 2ft tank?

You can keep different varieties of guppies in the same tank without partition if you don't mind having rojak guppies. I mixed mine and you can encounter nice colours/patterns if they mixed , but if you want to keep a certain line , you can put a partition in it.

Problem is, with those commonly found partitions, there are gaps at the sides which you must plug with sponge or mesh, if not any fry will run from one partition to the next and this might be bad if you intend to breed pure lines.

If you can fix the gap issue, then there's no problem with keeping several lines separately in a partitioned 2 ft tank.

what guppy you are planning to keep? albino?? hehe i like guppy too..

actually you can custom make the tank will be much more neated and cheaper . min should be 1 x 1 x 1 for 2 pairs more than that will be not so good

Wong, remember I told you that my guppy never breed in my tank? Last week, while changing water, I saw a small thing swimming around so I net it out and it was a guppy fry. A lone survivor of the whole batch, which the rest should be eaten by other fish in the tank. Now the guppy is alone in a small holding tank and growing well about 50% bigger than that time when i net it out. I have also separate its parent as I know that the female can have many spawn with just one mating. Crossing my finger.

Haha,I told you guppy breeds a lot... Nice to hear u finally have 1 fry which survives ur tank..

started out with these endlers. about 10 of them and now it has multiplied.

after that decided to try out glass belly and got a pair from angelo bro.

It is not okay if you intend to breed true lines. Females are indistinguishable at a young age and if left to grow up with young males, may get impregnated by males of other strains if mixing had occurred. Line breeders do not mix male and female fry together in one tank, given how females can store sperm within them for several broods of fry.

Oh! It means I have been getting it all wrong these while.

I thought that when it's mature enough then they mate.

they can start to mate at 2mths and i personally is a breeder myself for one line of guppies will use up to 6-8 tanks....

Oh yeah , and guppies breed real fast too. Soon that tank of yours will get overcrowded.
