I want to attached small bogwood to slate rock(as a weight).
Will the slate rock affect the water parameter.
What other weight could I use for small bogwood and what kind of glue should I use to attached them together?

    Many thanks.

Why do small bogwood need to be weighted down?
just keep boiling and soak them few times, they will sink eventually.

its hard to tell , unless you do the vinegar test and quarantine the rock in water for weeks for GH increase

I think only aquarium silicon glue is safe, using fishing line to be safe?

Bogwood if it is not submerged in water will take weeks to sink. You may want to use fishing line to tie it onto DW. Slate rocks don't know whether will increase gh anot. Why risk putting it into your crs tank as a weight to sink your bogwood? Let the bogwood float in a pail of water and it sink eventually will be better.

It is a small piece of wood and I wanted it to stand in a manner that defy gravity and that is why attaching to a weight is necessary.

Use a large piece of lava rock/dw. Tie a very thin fishing line on it and bury it into your substrate. Hook the dw that you one to create a defy-gravity effect on it and it will stay there. Volla..

Slate rock will not react to the vinegar test.

The only way to find out for sure is to put it in a pail of tap water. Test before and after (after 1-2 weeks).

As far as i know slate is more or less inert..and will not react to vinegar test..if it reacts what you got probably is not slate..go google it up..
And to be sure it does not leech anything into the water soak the rock in Distilled water for 1-2weeks and test for gh ph and tds before and after

I don't think those are slate pieces in your tank boxedfish. They are usually dark grey to light grey in color with no noticeable patterns or color grains on them, especially those for aquarium use. These could be rocks of other types sold as slate. If they react with vinegar they are not slate pieces.

You can try those big garden/landscaping stores or farms to make an inquiry. I guess plant nurseries like the ones along Upper Thomson Road should have slate in stock. Use the Yellow Pages to find these companies if necessary, or do a Google search. I've seen slate pieces before at C328, but sometimes they're out of stock.
