Some questions reg my new Nanacara Anomala

Hi AQers, i bought a pair of nanacara anomala from c328 today. Have some questions regarding them:

1. From what i read online,the males are very aggressive to the females. However, in my tank, the female keeps following the male, and the male is not attacking her, what does this mean?

2. Is it ok if i put them in a barebottom tank? This is because when i use lapis sand, it buffers the ph up to 7.5, whereas i read these fish prefer slightly acidic ph, which i achieved by throwing ketapang leaves into the tank.
