    Hi there

You can try crs haven . I not sure what kind of marine life you want in your tank . For myself, i bought a super small tank for my studying desk (around 20 cm by 20 cm). It comes with filter and light. Very small and portable . And it costs me 60 dollar =) I rear shrimps inside and there is quite alot. If you want some shrimps i can spare you a few =)

    Re: Nano tank in office

They are quite a few tanks to choose .. But since you want affordable .. I think you will end up choosing mine .. haha .. because i also ask for budget one and he show me good tanks that cost 90 dollar .. slightly bigger than mine ... but if you add up the soil or stones and rocks or plants .. you may end up paying more than hundred ... if you want a simple one .. you can consider mine .. if you need picture on how my tank looks like.. just go to the shrimp help post i posted .. You can see my tank picture..

The uncle said need at least one week and if you want soil is longer .. For me, i didnt choose soil because i am not having crs shrimp but cherry or yellow shrimp .. So i bought the shiny black gravel stone .. i cycle for around 3 to 4 days only .. I add cycle the tank with first 2 days tap water .. then the third day with 50 % change with distilled water .. the fourth day i throw my shrimps in le .. haha .. because i bought it at a very very cheap price .. Oh ! i bought a bacteria liquid bottle which you need for the cycling of tank .. yup ..=)

cycling doesnt work that way .. u need a source of ammonia to start cycling
you basically throwing in the shrimps in still .. a uncycled tank..

is your tank glass or acrylic?
To make yourself feel better, those shopping center LFS sell it for like $100 with a bunch of useless fake ornaments

usually the 1st shrimp tank is like a crash course, casualties inevitable

    Re: Nano tank in office

Hi ya, I think I can understand the feeling of burning in passion for shrimps cause u just did it for a few couple of hours ago haha.....bought a 98 bucks acrylic tank with led light. Total with the shrimp soil, two rocks and the bacterial liquid bottle cost me around 145...

Reach home around 7+, cannot wait for tomorrow I went back to office and set up lol... reach home abt 12am and can't wait for tomorrow to see how is my new tank doing.

About the cycling of water, the uncle told me to do it for two weeks. Notice that u guys mention abt distiller water, is there any other kind or water we need to put in??

As for what kind of shrimps I'm not too sure yet...

    Re: Nano tank in office

Kick start your cycling process with ammonia. 2 weeks is still short IMO. Especially for a nano tank, parameters flactuation are very fatal to the shrimps. Distilled water is used to do WC ( for lowering gH ) or top up in some cases. Theres a inverterbrates section in the forum under freshwater, you can take a look there. Or just do a search on whatever infomation you'll like to know.
    Nevertheless, welcome to the hobby.
Go get some poisoning in the inverts section (:

Ya thanks for the intro, now I realise my head almost drop lol...

Distilled water hmm...uncle didn't tell me that, thought I remember he told me tap water good enough as long as I put the bacterial liquid.....

I dun know what kind of shrimps to start off, any nice and affordable ones to suggest??

bro i would suggest to get some cherry to see if your water is good ...

you got soil so i think crs is the best since you already spend so much on soil .... you can try with cherry first to see if they can survive or you buy super cheap crs

I just put tap water in the tank with soil and two rocks in it then plug and play the filter.

    Re: Nano tank in office

Do a search on the internet for nitrogen cycle. Water cycling means the process of Beneficial Bacteria forming. They feed on ammonia which will kills shrimps. Not sure what soil you're using so i wont know if the soil leaks ammonia to kickstart your cycling, never bought any products from the place you mentioned.

Tap water alone will not do, our Singapore water contains high level of chlorine and chloramine. Both will kill shrimps.
Mosura shizhen is a good product designed for shrimps to condition your water. Its a anti chlorine & chloramine.
