Any way is to use the rainbar and see how it is. If its still too fast, direct it towards the tank wall instead of out towards your tank.
use rainbar is the best solution. rainbar can be bought at any lfs cheap or diy by using pvc pipe.
Using the turn off valve located at both the inlet and outlet valve is ok only for temporary. Those valve are mainly used when you are doing maintenance on the canister. A extended rainbar might be better in long term and also positioning them correctly help distribute the flow across the tank.
Aiming the rainbar slightly upwards towards the surface will somehow reduce the current rate and help aerate the surface which is a good thing as well. Depending on the angle , some people manage to position in a way that it provide aeration and minimizing co2 loss as well. Just have to experiment yourself![]()

It actually includes a rainbar. I am using and somehow i think its too fast. Shall adjust it later. Anyway do i still need a additional air pump for my tank if i put the rainbar below the water level.
Actually the knobs are not meant to be used only during maintenance..the knobs are actually meant to adjust flowrates and just that it works to keep water in the pipes by completely shutting its' valve, which makes priming easier..the input knob should never be used to reduce flowrates because it might damage some component in there(i.e the motor)..you can only manipulate the output knob to adjust the flowrates..

eheim rainbar are small in size which cause more pressure going through and make the flowrate out big. Get a sponge to cover the rainbar and the flowrate will be lesser. another way is to make the rainbar holes bigger which allow more water to go through then the water go through would be slower.
best alternative get a bigger rainbar.
still learning the hard way!!
So the rain bar should put below water level? If so, do i need to get air pump? Because there will not be any bubble.
is it a planted tank ? if with live plants i guess there isnt a need to aerate the water. recommended thou ? i dont have an airpump and i place my rain bar under the water pointing upwards hahah looks like a fountain from the top.
Low tech tank FTW!
I see. Well cool. Shall see how.

To me in theory yes it might shorten the lifespan of the pump or canister........ but alot of hobbist somehow overlook cause with high flow it is really causing a swirlpool in the tank.
From a 90 degree look. Try to aim just 5 degree downwards or slightly more if they dont cause any swirling etc. But not 45 degree direct hitting the front substrate.

Nope. I did not control the water flow. I add a little more water. The flow is good now.
