hello people, i need to know if it's not necessary to put aquarium salt in freshwater tanks. i was told by an uncle from lfs that i don't need to put salt in, and because i have anubias and driftwood plants, he said adding salt will cause the plants to release some sort of toxins that will harm fish.

i'm currently quite confused as some of my fish are getting this white patches on their fins.

Unless absolutely necessary, adding salt is not required. It is better to identify the issue at hand before adding salt as this can make things worst.

Can you take a photo of the issue afflicting your fish? It will be easier to identify the problem and thus finding the suitable medication for it.
