how do you refill it when it runs out of water?
as for whether its one way, try blowing it through the other end.
just bought this bubble counter from Teo's farm.
As you can see the tubing is screwed into the top and the bottom is screwed onto the needle valve. This is good as the tubing is secured and will not slip off the glass or plastic counters when under pressure. My question is, does anyone know if the counter comes with a built-in one-way valve? If you look at the picture there is a metal nozzle in the water chamber, and I believe it is a one-way valve, but does anyone know for sure?

Hi hwchoy!
Yes, it also serve as a 1 way valve (aka check valve).

great! that means I have a secure hose all the way to the diffuser [:] [:

Ehemmm...check-valves do fail you know choy. You would never know when it would fail though.![]()

Simple, just put another (or whatever qty) of check-valve(s) along the tubing if you are the careful type.
what will happen if water gets suck back pass the needle valve?
The whole problem with my set up, with the ADA bubble counter and check valve, is that the silicone tubing will come off the ADA check valve because the tubing had hardened and doesn't grip the check valve as it should, plus the extension of the valve is rather short. Plus the amount of contraption stuck onto the side of the tank is rather messy.

Hi hwchoy, that might not be a one way valve, it serve as a purpose like a nozzle to create the bubble that is needed for counting. To confrim, take out the bubble counter, look through the hole. If it is thru hole , then no one way valve as the water can flow backward. Normally, one way valve has a rubber nozzle which is closed, but due to the design, when the air pressure is exerted in the flowing direction, the nozzle will open and hence there is a flow. If the water is flowing the other way, the nozzle will be pressure to close further.....hence no flow....
If there is something blocking the hole, most likely u got a one way valve in built in it.Juz my thoughts.
BTW, anybody noe where to get a splitter with 3 or more control needle valve to split CO2 for more tanks setup? how much? where the cheapest?
yes the nozzle has a rubble "iris" and water does not flow backwards. only worry is how reliable it is.

think Vinz is using one.
he posted info on this bubble counter cum check valve quite sometime back.

Yep, click here. Not a lot more info there though.

Hi vinz, did you have additional check valve since it is so near to the regulator?

I have another check valve near the connection to the reactor. To prevent the water in the reactor from leaking out whenever I disconnect the CO2 set for refill.
There is a down side to this counter... water loss is rapid. Could be due to heating from the solenoid (heat conducted thru the metal fittings). I've ruled out back flow into the solenoid, regulator, etc.
Hmmmm... Something just occured to me. Could be leakage... slow enough not to be obvious. Will check it out and update.

ought to be leakage. I lost a lot of CO2 yesterday because there was a leak that wasn't obvious. Finally wrapped some white tape on the needle valve screw thread, should have also applied vaseline on the threads and also the washer in the caps.

Re-read the thread and realised your real concern. I remember that the package indicated that it's a check valve and counter combined. So, you do not have to worry about backflow.

Choy,
There should be a rubber washer installed in the top valve, below the screw threads. I think you're suppose to remove that and use it on the needle valve. At least thats what I did.

heh, like petergwee says, one-way valve does fail!
anyway the "new" packaging doesn't have ANY words on it, althought the price and came down.![]()

is that right? used to be only the tubing clamping on the needle valve nozzle and tightened by the screw cap (of the needle valve). now I have one screw cap extra (from the needle valve) and no rubber in between the counter and the needle valve, mmm…
