    hi all,

Having problem with my setup, at first was connected from prefilter ---> Ehiem 2028 ---> Ehiem 2215 (dummy) ---> chiller.

Experiencing the outflow not strong enough, and the Ehiem 2028 is constantly noisy due to not enough inflow..

Have done the following but result still the same,
    Remove 2215, same small rate..
change 2215 and 2028 position, same small rate..

The indicator show the outflow strength, no matter how i change, still same result.
    IMG_1658.JPGIMG_1656.JPG

Tested the 2028 in a pail, outflow is strong enough
    IMG_1646.JPG

Any suggestion what can be do to help?

Your pre-filter media could be too packed in or your entire hose connection length exceed 6ft or your intake tube is smaller that what it should be. Another question is why you need the 2215 behind the 2028? A dummy filter ( or prefilter ) is best placed in front as this filter is the one you need to maintain the most in a serial canister filter connection configuration. For any canister filter setup, it is best yo keep the hose no longer than 6ft or it will under power the pump output.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Thanks for the reply, in my prefilter, there is no media. Only one black sponge and one white wool. The hose connection i did not measure if it exceed 6ft, will look into it. I did try prefilter (16/22) ---> 2215(12/16) ---> 2028 (16/22). Even placing the filter infront, still experiencing the same problem. Wonder any problem the way i connect from my picture, cos my inlet are piping from my tank before connecting to hose.

There's been suggestion by fellow friends to get a pump, just look at the alternative.

If you want to add a pump, it is better to let the 2215 operate on it's own power. Save your money.

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

Your hose size bro. You keep changing between 16/22 and 12/16 your flow will be hammered hardcore.

Also, check your pre-filter white wool. Is it getting sucked into the output hole of the prefilter and hence causing a clog? That's what happened to me once and I wasted time and money thinking it's a motor problem. The way I fixed it is that I placed a very coarse wool as my last layer so it wont get sucked into the output hole and clog the system.

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

Was considering let the 2215 run alone, but try running prefilter ---> 2028 ---> chiller still get same weak result.. that why seems like doesn't work.. thinking should i try run the setup like 2028 to chiller and prefilter to 2215 to tank seperately.. but like tt my tank will have another in n outlet.. and more power consumption.

Bro Ecalyte, understand the change of size have affect my flowrate badly, so took out 2215 and try with prefilter and 2028 all with same hose size.. still facing weak outflow. The prefilter was given by Alan(Thanks again!), and have a plastic thing place at the bottom to prevent clogging.

The clogging will not happen at the bottom, it will happen at the top where the white wool contacts the output hole

My prefilter input is at the top, output is at the bottom. The wool don't contact with anything.

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

I typed a really long reply to this but my internet cut off so I lost it.

    So here's the summary haha!

What you should have done was disconnect each component in your system (minus the 2028 of course since that's the running motor) and find out step by step which component is causing the clog.

Disconnect the 2215 first, if the clog still occurs disconnect the Pre Filter. If the clog is still there, proceed to disconnecting the chiller. This way you will know for sure which component is causing the choke and attend to it right away.

So try doing that now.. if you've already disconnected the 2215 just disconnect the pre-filter and run the 2028 and chiller to see if the choke is still there.

I see that your white filter wool is directly in front of where the inlet is, in that case there could still be a choke there (unless you placed a second plastic thing there too to prevent that). By right, the plastic thing should be used at the inlet part of the pre-filter (if you're given only one).

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

    hahaha.. thanks for your reply!

Will test run to find out where is the problem, just afraid later i remove the chiller, the flow also so weak means my piping did not do well?

Think my series like not working well, how can I improve with the current setup? get new one? or can have a way to fix with up with good outflow..

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

Your setup is fine.. should go with Prefilter --> 2028 --> Chiller.

Don't place the 2215 there because of the hose size difference. This is most likely causing the air pockets in your 2028 and making it have a very slow flow rate.

If you die die wanna use the 2215, then have it before the pre-filter. So you have 2215 --> prefilter --> 2028. Then your media has to be adjusted to having the wool in the 2215.

But my final advice is to remove the 2215 from the equation altogether. How big is your tank by the way? Depending on the answer, you may want to run the 2215 independently as an additional source of filtration / flow.

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

Will take out 2215 since there is so much problem with it, if i play 2217 will it help cause 2217 inlet is 16/22.

Was hoping the Prefilter --> 2028 --> Chiller will work yesterday but give me same bad result.. quite sick of it.. damn..
Hopefully able to find the problem..

How do you connect the prefilter outlet to 2028 inlet? As you can see, the outlet of the prefilter is at the bottom while the inlet of 2028 is at the top of 2028 filter. thinking is this also a cause for the air pockets because the water are unable to reach 2028 easily. having problem connecting it that y currently is placed outside my cabinet.

Btw, my tank is 2ft cube..

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

Sorry I didn't read the topic of the thread.. your tank size is quite clearly stated.

Ok, 2217 won't work either because the output is a 12/16mm.

By the way, just so you know.. your pre-filter is set up wrong. Your inlet is meant to be at the bottom while the outlet is at the top. This is to ensure that the problem you're facing with now (not being able to hook it up to a filter after) does not happen. The box clearly depicts how the set up should be done. But never mind, since you've already set it up that way.. just use a longer hose to connect it to the inlet of the 2028. Don't worry about water not being able to reach a certain part in your system.. it's a pressurised system, so once the flow starts.. inertia will take over and make sure everything runs.

Just take things one step at a time. Remove the prefilter to see if the flow is still bad. I still believe that your prefilter is the cause of the choke. Anyway, a single 2028 is more than enough to handle your 2ft cube. So you don't need additional filtration. Just sell the 2215 that you have since you won't be using it anymore..

Just wanted to have extra canister for more filter media.. haha.. its okay.. my 2215 is half filled anyway.. will try later tonite.. cross my finger and pray!

Re: Help for my 2ft cube tank

I have a feeling the problem lies with the pre-filter too. Otherwise, there must be a connection that is not tight enough somewhere.

You really should try removing the pre-filter and test again. In all your tests, those where you included the pre-filter gave you problems.
I suggest doing a Prefilter-->2028 test. If it fails, then confirm the prefilter problem lo. because the 2028 is working alright mah...

If it really is the prefilter, it could be :
    hose connection leaky
    lid leaky
    valve/tap leaky
prefilter's wool and sponge too compact?

Wool and sponge too compact shouldn't be a problem. I jam-packed mine with wool! haha!

Haha.. Sad thing is I stay in the west!!! Haha..

Bro ecalyte, can share the picture of your canister? Want see how ur connect properly..

Will try removing the prefilter see the outflow.. If it's better.. Problem should be at prefilter..
Dun think there is leak anywhere of the prefilter.. Cause I will look damn carefully because scare long term will spoil the cabinet.. Will update on the performance without prefilter.. Hehe.. Thanks all for sharing!
