don't mind measking, do you really need a hood? I assume it's for a planted tank, the tmp gets very high and lighting is going to be quite difficult. Maintenance also will be troblesome.

Actually I am thinking of making a hood to hide the lamp and fan. I was thinking of having a half hood i.e. leaving the the back of the hood open. What do you think ?
If your tank is tall enough, make an open top hood. For my shorter tanks, the hoods have unattached covers, and I don't use them on ordinary days. When I have guests, I put the covers back for aesthetics.

I think a hood is definitely a good idea for the viewing pleasure as well as distributing the weight equally at the top of the tank. On top of that it helps to support the equipment you have on top. As mentioned you can always have a open top hood or one with detachable panels that you can cover when the occasion arise.
I've seen Soon Heng Hougang selling hood, but I suspect they got it from someoneelse. If you are only looking at wooden hood, I suppose most carpenter will be able to construct one. Their wood quality will be better if you pay the right price.
