    Hi,

Got this about a week ago. Was told it's still emersed form and that it's from Taiwan, but I've yet to see any leaves changing. Anyone know what it is?

Yeah, it does look like Eriocaulon cinereum. I have one of the plants growing emersed, so hopefully can ID the flower. Any english name for 'Nan Tou Gu Ji Cao'?

It also looks like this ‚d‚’‚‰‚‚ƒ‚‚•‚Œ‚‚Ž@‚“‚…‚Ž‚‰‚Œ‚… pic from http://www41.tok2.com/home/cygnus-al...usa/senile.htm

Hi Victri, I have the same plant before, this is emmerse form, LFS claim that this is Eriocaulon Cinereum. But it slowly melt away (from old to new leaves) in my tank after 3weeks.
However, I have many Cinereum in my tank that grow very well..so I doubt it is cinereum.

Please refer to the link I posted earlier.
Please kindly post the progrees if you can keep them alive for more than 4weeks and how you did it...

The ones I planted in the water might be starting to change as I see a few of the old leaves melting. Hope I can keep it alive. The flower stalks on the emersed planted one is growing quite long. I've had it since 6 Dec 2003.

Well, at least I know it's some form of Eriocaulon. I'm just very curious to know exactly what it is. Hope someone can positively ID it.

More pics of the plant Bottom leaves starting to melt away.

I am not sure why you are so sure that this is Cinereum. If it is true...then I would advice anyone who like Cinereum: please buy the submerse form...which is much much easier to grow..

Yes, the book does say it propagate by seeds (if it is cinereum), But my cinereum just reproduce by side shoot(or plantlets), seem like it does that after flowering...and the main stalk will wither after that.

have to agree with you there Eric. There are several hundred distinc species of Eriocaulon so it is rather hard to be absolutely sure which one you have… for list of Eriocaulon species just click and type ERIOCAULON in the genus name field.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Yupe, I might be wrong, but when I bought it, they told me that it was this plant...Eriocaulon cinereum.
Anyway, if its not, can anyone really identify what is this plant? I am also interested on its true identity...

    Hi Eric,

It still looks exactly the same. Only difference is that the flower stalks have grown longer as if trying to reach for the surface. The stalks are now about 4-5 inches tall. The melting leaves are gone, replaced by new leaves, and plant looks healthier now.

Thanks victri, any close up pics?

Does the new leaves turn out to be broad or just like any other Cinereum. Because I already have Cinereum, would want to keep one if this is not Cinereum.

Can you tell if this is Cinereum?

Here's a closeup pic I just took. Don't think the plant will transform anymore as I've had it since Dec 6. Not sure if it's different from Cinereum cuz I've never seen submersed Cinereum up close. Maybe you can post a pic to compare? If you're really keen, maybe we can exchange 1 plant and see how it grows side by side.

For picture, please refer to this link.

The leaves are more slim and fine, if yours stabilised already and the leaves are still in broad form...I am very keen to exchange.

Since I have killed all my previous batch, it is better if you can nurse them a bit longer (after it grows a few more leaves), then we exchange. Will keep in touch thru PM or Email.

    Thanks

I'll keep you updated on the plant's progress. See if there's any difference in a couple weeks.

    Eric,

I'm sorry if you were expecting my reply. I already have the plants you have so I didnt see any point of exchanging...[]
