Simon, your prayer is being answered (bored right? help me with my problem [] )

I did a 30% water change on Monday, and washed out my Eheim 2222. Also added 6 rainbowfish (Bosman's), no fertilizers. Out of the blue, the water is green the next day. It had always been murky since I set it up 2 weeks ago, but never green. I changed 80% water last night and washed the filter again.

Question, should I try the Ocean Free Greenaway stuff, or does it affect plants and fishes? Don't want to get a UV just yet unless there is no other way.

    thanx.

Simon, no sunlight at all, although it has been on 72W x 12 hour regime. Didn't have a problem for 2 weeks until after I clean out the tank and filter. I am now doing 36W (turn off 1 tube) x 10 hrs, let's see how it goes.

Nizz, did you get any good plants from Teo? I find Teo's plants very vigorous compared with those from Ah Pek.

    Hi

If you can spare some $, get a UV light. My tank is rather near window as a result some them indirect sunlights can cause green water. So, once and for all I fit a UVlight. I on it for 2 days at those hours when my tank lights comes on (10hrs each day) and immediately gone.
Of course this is not the only option. like I said if you got some extras. i got the JBL UVC 500 - 5 watts for about $150

hi, will the use of activated carbon help in this case?
    P-L-E-C-O-R-Y=M-A-N-I-A!!! YEAH!
FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.

    ----------------
Nope, activated carbon only clears chemicals and toxins in waters, not algae.

the likelihood is that you killed of your filter bacteria or while cleaning caused some filter particles to fertilise your water.

not sure if a reduction in filter bacteria , leads to some unprocessed ammonia which caused the algae bloom

in that case, it will cause a bacteria bloom (seen as cloudiness not green water)

well I have always had some cloudiness, but it became green (and cloudy) just after cleaning. Problem is that I also added 6 good size fishes at the same time so not sure if it is the added bioload or killing of bacteria.

    Hi
I have 80 watts (10hrs) for a 2ft x 1 ft tank heh heh heh! []Well, keep the temperature cool (fan or chiller) and have fast growers plus a UV light fitted. I am watching it progress so far no problem for almost 3 months. Arr...slow flowing filter, careful dosage of nutrients too. My fishes all have to wear

Hi CK, 72W for 80x30x45 which is around 100 litres, around 2.75W per gal. In fact I was contemplating to modify adding 18W x 2 PL tube (the fixture not long enough for 2 x 36W PL, so I'll put 18W + 36W), only problem is the heat.
Actually I wanted to do this to spread out the light as the two ends of the tank is a bit dim, while the centre is so bright the gravel has a green tinge. Hope the glosso will cover them soon.

I am in St 11, opposite Changkat CC. Where are you? Usually I drop by K&K in St 21. The other shop (selling Nathura tank) is kind of ex and the owner kind of less knowledgeable.

Hi Jellydot, so far my max temperature is 28.5C with lights on for 12 hours. I'm not using other liquid fert other than ADA Step 1. Base fert is JBL, and I have some frogbits and cabomba to soak up nutrients (hopefully).

BTW, does anyone have any spare hornwort to giveaway
