    Hi All,

I am thinking of using Flood lights as a lighting system for my 3ft x 1.8ft x 1.8ft tank. I am not sure if Flood lights is MH lights. Can someone advice? If it is, do I use the 3 watts per gallon caculation? And how high do I need to put the lights away from the surface of the water in order not to cook my tank

All positive contributions will be gratefully receive.

strangely, the 3watts per gal doesn't apply to MH.. so be careful... as a starter, perharps you can try 75watts. as for the distance away from the water line, a 2ft gap is good

should be the same, since both uses the same kind of bulb.. Floodlights is a term used for industrial outdoor lights, usage is usually to brighten the exterior of the building

you can go to kelatan lane. there are a few lighting shops there... you might want to consider the pendant MH with modification to pulley system for less than $200

    Hi ,

Similarly, has anyone DIY MH with e-ballast ? I am tempted to change my normal (magnetic ballast) . Saw one lighting shop in Kelantan Road selling at $70 for the e-ballast from Italy.

Also, any bro has any lobang for good aluminium casing those are used for the MH ? Length ranges from 3ft to 5ft .

    Cheers

Just wondering... HM.. how long does it last? I read from some books that said its like FL light needs changing every 1 year. Others said that changing it isn't neccessary.. Which is which?

The osram MH 150w 6500K bulb cost $25 at Chinese Garden lighting shop. It is really value for money and less blockage for maintenance if hang up.

Also, you can get free sun-tan at home, plus light up your house without any other light on. Just kidding.

p/s : Any bro has tried using e-ballast for MH ?

    Cheers

eballast for metal halide needs special tuning according to a specific brand/model of metal halide lamp. So make sure you stick to the same brand and model....else you will need to bring the eballast back for re-tuning as per new model. Ask the shop if they know...

Take note: metal halide lamps emits UV rays at a much larger quantity than normal lighting. Ensure that you've properly shield the lamps to avoid harmful blinding incidents.... Try not to look at the lamps directly to see the "intensity" , focus on the water and let the water absorbs the radiation....
