Re: A Good question given to me by a Senior....

Why always must have argument over the smallest things?

The "nerd" discussion with the bird etc is all part of learning, and getting informed on what is going on with some supposedly "pure" lines. While it may not be directly related, the TS's question did lead to the discussion. If need be, you guys can start a separate thread to discuss on shrimp genetics.

If one cannot trust the purity of a particular line or a batch of shrimps being sold at the LFS, the choice is simple. Don't buy. If you have doubts and still buy, but end up being disappointed because it throws out "impure" shrimps, then no point getting angry or making a fuss out of it. A conscious choice to purchase the affected shrimps was made, whether it was in good faith or blind belief.

Re: A Good question given to me by a Senior....

Frankly speaking...I really don't mind any discussion here in my thread as long as everyone of us learn something here...as long as there is no Arguements...
To me, I find opening this thread good & bad...
Good: I learn more about Genes
Bad: ARGUEMENTS over small issues & being blame for opening this thread to BURN & start fire.
But overall...I never regretted for the blame as Me and Many gets to know and learn more from bro Nav and Master Silane about shrimps genes...

Hereby...thanks Bro Nav and Master Silane for providing this thread with so much information...
At least when my son or daughter ask me...
"Daddy; why got White tiger??? The Mummy or Daddy Tiger also white???"
Now I know how to answer them....
Or else I always tell my Son...
"Son..now you are White Tiger...but as you grow up...you will not be a white tiger anymore"
KeKeKe...and my son alway gave a Puzzled Face

Bro Stormhawk...close this thread at any point if you feel it is getting over-heated. This thread is not to pin point on anyone as this has not happen to me before. Just find this question & answer given me "pause" to think and re-consider my anger if this would to happen on me..which I feel really makes sense.

Wondering if any one on earth done DNA on Crs or any drawf shrimps before...

Lastly...everyone Chill chill...It's just a discussion thread...go to the fridge and pop a can of beer or coke if you are feeling hot...
Chinese New Year is just around the corner..so cheer up for a Lucky Year ya!!!

    Newlife here wishes everyone...
Especially Master Silane & Bro Nav...
A Happy Chinese New Year...Hope everyone here will have tank Flooded with shrimps in the new year of Dragon!!!

Hi Newlife bro, can reveal who is the senior you are referring to and what lineage of PRL or breeder is he/she purchased from and getting golden/snow white shrimps? It will be good if you reveal the reseller/breeder names and get your senior to post under "being conned on your purchase" segment of this forum so that we are aware and not being conned of the self proclaimed PRL shrimp and matter of fact it is not. The reseller/breeder can also share why he/she sold the shrimp as PRL.

Bro Newlife, so there is no $1000+ PRL that breed out golden and this is only a discussion of what if a golden shrimp pops out from the pool of PRL.

Actually, if the pure line shrimp is a thousand bucks for one, I would do what Silane suggested in his blog.
Waste 1 batch of offsprings to test it. Cross the pure line shrimp with a golden snow and see if any F1 golden snow comes out. If there is, means the so called pure was carrying recessive golden genes.

Better than the golden coming out 6 months later and the breeder can argue its mutation or we ownself maybe added golden genes by introducing other CRS/BDS to the breeding stocks.

Waste one batch of $1000 PRL to cross with golden/snow white for verification, pocket must be very deep. Still need to source for golden/snow white shrimps and set up a new tank. After which what you going to do with the experimental shrimps and it's offspring?

Since you willing to spent 1k on a shrimp, i guess you can spent enough money for another setup.

Simply way is to use a external breeding box like satelite to choose the shrimps for test. No need to spent more money ah.

The failed offspring just sell as normal crs lor. if you feel rich, thread them as feeders lor.

Hardcore shrimp hobbyist will go to the extend if their tanks is full of the PRL. Any additions to the colony will inflict risk of introduce golden gene in.

So far I've never heard of any breeder going to this extend to test if their line are pure. A shrimp usually gives you 5 or 6 batches of shrimps thou. :$

Re: A Good question given to me by a Senior....

    from boss Silane's blog

Start Off in a Pure Way

To start off your Pure Red Line (纯系) breeding program without golden (white shrimp) recessive genes, the best way to send them for DNA test. But.... thats the practical, here, is another method that can be carried out to validate your Pure Red Line breeding stock carries golden genes. Golden CRS offshrings can appear after many generation of breeding if the inital breeding stock is not tested even without intensional introduction of golden genes.
Golden genes in Pure Red Line is deemed undesirable by majorities in communities around the world.
    The method as follow:
    - Pair A: PRL female with a golden male
    - Pair B: PRL male with a golden female
If Pair A has no golden offsprings but all red offsprings, then the female in Pair A does not has golden genes.
If Pair B has no golden offsprings but all red offsprings, then the male in Pair B does not has golden genes.
After you have comfirm both PRL of different sex has no golden genes, put these 2 together to breed, the offsprings are comfirmed not to carry golden genes, so will be the offsprings' offspring.
The chances of these 2 to breed out golden offsprings, the chance of it will be extremely remote, just like striking a $10mil lottery, but this time, the breeder get no prize.

If the PRL is pure enough, all the F1 offsprings when crossed with a golden, should be all CRS, without any golden.
If the PRL is tainted with golden genes, the F1 offsprings should have 50% golden and 50% CRS. Even if we include some random luck, there should still be 1 or 2 goldens.
