    Hi,
just bought the Nutrafin CO2, the one that u pour the contents from the supplied satchets into the container and then run the tube into the tank.
anyone can share their experience on this product?
i just started out on planted tanks and was thinking of trying this simple setup first before i jump in and invest on the cylinder type.

    Okay, that's enough []
You had hit the Submit button too many times

BTW, the flipper itself worth the money. It works similar like Dennerle flipper which can cost SG$50+ but much much easier to clean.

    Hi Jonapur,
By valve, do u mean that type that is used to control the flow from air pump one? Can those be used?

believe he is referring to a check valve.
this is added as a precaution against backflow when co2 generator stops producing co2.

    ok, thanks all.
for info, i see only 2 or 3 bubbles per minute, seems like very very slow.........dont know if it is effective or not. I guess the best is the cylinder type of co2...lets see how......

    Hi DL!

You can save on the refill by using sugar and yeast.
It's just as effective, just experiement on the mixture amount.

the price of 1 refill pack should be enough for 1/2 year supply of ingredients for diy co2.

The Nutrafin refill pack should be good for about 4 weeks.

If you want to DIY CO2 after the refill is finished, just use sugar and yeast.

For me, I fill sugar up to the first mark on the bottom of the Nutrafin bottle. Then add water to the 2nd mark, add yeast. (I add baking soda also; it was on somebody 's recipe).

This DIY mixture is good for about a week 's worth of CO2.

    have fun..

if you happen to buy 10 packs of refill for the nutrifin set, then you can seriously think about a pressurized tank set.

    Hi,
I believe that the Nutrafin refill is about $7 and assuming that it can last a month, then 3 months will be $21.
And lets say a 2L cylinder can last 3 months, then a refill is about $20.
So it works out to be almost the same?
    Just some of my assumptions.

it is due to the backflow of the solution in the bottle.. all you need to add is a check valve

    Hi,
I been using the Nutrafin system for 1 month liao. I didnt encounter the white stuff that u mention, but a nuisance that i encountered was that snails climbed onto the flipper (reactor), causing the bubbles to jam. but i dont care la, let the snails move away themselves...
Was wondering if snails are attracted to CO2.......

After bout 1 month, the bubbles seem to have stopped, so i DIY, bought sugar and yeast, followed forumer SKF's instructions, filled up sugar to the first mark, water to the second mark and then add bout half teaspoon yeast. Bubbles started to form again after bout 1 hrs plus........

the white stuff is common in diy yeast co2.
    no worries, just a nuisance.
using a bubble counter will help to reduce the white stuff as well.

    Re:

Hi, I have just started a planted tank and am using the Nutrafin system. I'll like to seek advices on the following question/problem from the more experienced users out there:

    1) the CO2 bubbles tend to get stuck along the panes of the diffuser as it travels up. these 'stuck' bubbles get bigger and bigger as new bubbles get amalgamated. Is this normal? What can i do to make sure the bubbles travel smoothly?

    2) i notice the CO2 bubbles remains quite large, even when they travelled the entire length of the diffuser, before popping up at the water surface. Isn't this a waste of the CO2 bubbles as they are effectively escaping? Is there a way to make the bubbles smaller ( and hence dissolve better?)

    Appreciate any advice. Thks.
